After putting some RCI skid plates on my 16' SR5, we went off-roading to get to a family cabin. It is a pretty rough trail in a couple of areas...about 5-6 miles taking 1.5 hours off the highway to get into the cabin at 10,000 ft. Coming out it had rained all night so the rocks were slippery and the tracks very muddy. All I can say is, having driven jeeps and Ford F150s (short bed) into the cabin, the SR5 had the most power and the most comfort of any of the vehicles. It performed flawlessly.
We used 4H until it got serious then went to 4Lfor 2/3 of the time off road. I appreciated the manual shift function. I went to ATRAC once just to test it out.
Also, the RCI Skid Plates did their job. Glad I had that "insurance" as we took 4-5 major rock kick backs.
    I think I will keep the 4runner :)

Now to get a winch and get rid of the OEM tires.

All that on OEM tires, awesome. Tires make a difference so you will do even better next time.

:canada:I agree on the tires. Our '16 SR5 Trail came with Goodyear Duratracs, which have done well so far. But I would probably have looked at Toyos if I'd had the choice. We had them on our '08 Outlander and they proved flawless for over 60,000 miles. - Cheers, Ted
