Have a newer trd pro so selling the trusty 06 4runner sport edition. Has 270k miles and the suspension is pretty rough so thinking about addressing this before selling. When riding around I feel ever bump on the front and it just rides rough.

Question - since I am selling I don’t want to sink a ton of $ but want to address it. Any recommendations on front struts? Bilsteins seem to be the favorites. Do I have to go with the xreas or does that matter??

Also is this something I can do (have jacks) and if not what is the approximate price at a shop if I provide the struts.

    thanks!!!

You can usually find a complete set of 5th gen takeoffs for little to no money. 4 “new “ springs and shocks.

Sounds good! Will look. So the 5th gens will fit the 06 sport just fine?

5th gen take offs are fine but be aware the front lower strut bushing is wider than the mount on the 4th gen LCA. you will either have to widen the bracket on the LCA or shave off some material of the strut. everything else it hot swappable

Gotcha. May look for 4th gen if easier/no mod.

Anyone have sets they would recommend? Also is xreas a must or?

Most people ditch xreas when it wears out. You’re probably not going to find 4th gen stock suspension without a bunch of miles. If you’re not comfortable with modifying the 5 th gen front shocks then bilstein 5100 or non adjustable 4600 would be the way to go.
I think Eibach makes a non adjustable shock as well.

Awesome! Since selling the 4600 may be the way to go. Look to be $100 each

You can also get fully assembled KYB struts from rock auto or something for cheap. Then you don't have to mess with assembling spring/shock/top mount into one unit. Basically OEM+ ride. Or there are even cheaper options if you're just trying to band-aid knowing the next owner will probably want to do their own lift and suspension down the road.
