What’s up everyone! I have a few questions about this 4Runner I found… it’s a 2021 4Runner sr5 4wd and it has 53k miles on it. They’re asking $30,999 and I’m used to seeing them priced much higher. Carfax report is completely clean. I get that’s it’s an only an sr5 but still seems pretty cheap to me. I’d love to buy it and join the 4Runner club! Any ideas?

Sounds pretty good if it’s mechanically sound.

There’s a few of us on this forum who have survived the great outdoors with an SR5. ;)

MSRP for 2023 SR5 is 40K on toyota.com, so I don't think that 2021 SR5 with 53K miles is that cheap. Used cars is always a risk, but if this truck is in good condition, never been in accident and has full service records - chances are it will run for next 10 years with no major issues.

Seems like a good price. If you are interested, It would be cheap insurance to have the 4Runner inspected by an independent party if you dont have a trusted technician.

Price seems decent, mileage is a non issue, really only hold up is actual condition of the truck. You never really know until you lay eyes on it, drive it, crawl under it....

I'd say thats a good deal. Just make sure it wasn't a rental.

Yes, you will. I’ve been off roading for 23 years with just basic 4x4, no lockers, MTS or fake hood scoop and I’ve never been stuck. ;)

I wouldn’t call that cheap but I would call it quite fair — IF it’s been well cared for. Beyond a visual inspection by you or a trusted mechanic, I would want to see complete service records. If they can document routine oil changes etc and no scary problems, and the truck meets your needs, personally I’d go for it.

If they can’t document proper maintenance then you’re rolling the dice. Doesn’t mean you won’t end up a winner — it’ll just be more of an unknown.

What a scary but awesome picture! I wouldn’t want to venture much further out on that rock. It may become a scene from the coyote vs the roadrunner.

Check prices on the on-line used car sites. That will give you an idea if this one is priced right.

There's a belief that rental cars are flogged mercilessly by many of the renters. That's probably even more of a concern with a four-wheel drive since a lot of people that rent cars don't know what they're doing in the first place, let alone how to manipulate a four-wheel drive transfer case and under what conditions to use it.

But, my current 2019 ORP was a Hertz car and it's been just fine for me. I've said this in other threads: it needed new brake rotors right away because people had thrashed the brakes, but it's been ultra reliable otherwise. I have no concerns about buying a rental car anymore... there's not a whole lot of things that somebody could have done worse to that 4Runner than I've done to it since I've bought it.

Is the offered truck SR5 or SR5 Premium and does the seller know the difference between the two ?

If you buy a rental from s dealer, it’s going to be on you to verify if there is any previous damage, and if the repairs were done well enough. Rental companies dont report info to carfax type places. And you can bet the buying dealers don’t ask about previous damage history, especially if they buy at auction.

You should still ask the seller if there was previous damage. If they know, they can’t hide it from you, as it would be misrepresentation. It’s not a response if they say it has a clean carfax, so repeat your question. If they dont know, you might be in a better bargaining position.

Plain SR5 KBB is right at $31k in the middle of the range. The $32k they list of course is the high end.

    SR5 premium couple grand higher.

Not getting a killer deal but not getting ripper off either.

If it's a regular SR5 with 53k miles, why not just buy a new 2023 for $5-6k more with close to zero miles?

I looked into that and a 23 sr5 is MSRP $39k. That’s even if I can locate a new one.

Well fortunately for me I know a trustworthy source that works for the company and showed me the full history. even stuff that isnt reported to carfax. It was a rental car but it’s never been in a shop. Only damage history is a replaced windshield.
