Search on YouTube. So many videos on 285's and what you may need to do. A lot of variables to determine what you need. Running an negative offset is a disadvantage to begin with vs running 0 or any positive. Weight of your rig, specifically on the front end. bumper, winch, etc.

What makes you say this? How is it a Disadvantage? Genuinely asking.

Negitive offset, pushes the wheel out farther then oem(sometimes). Now the op ask about 17x8.5" -6 offset. Which should work out well.

BUT everyone is so concerned about rubbing.... 9 times outta 10 there will be rubbing. I highly recommend getting a BODY MOUNT chop, and doing necessary trimming done before adding 285s. While people will say I fit 285s with a bmc, that's great, every wheel and tire is different.

When the wheel is set more outward it will turn wide causing more rubbing and potentially needing a body mount chop for 285s.

Vs if you compare something like a factory TRD Offroad wheel with +15 offset its much easier to fit.

Vs a factory TRD Pro wheel with +4 offset you need slightly more work than TRD Offroad wheel.

    Edit -
Tires also play a roll here. It will rub relatively lesser the tire OP likes Wildpeak M/T01 LT285/70R17 which is on the smaller side of 285 tires at 32.8" vs something like a 33in 285/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac / Ultraterrain / pro comp xtreme mt2 , or even bigger mickey thompson baja boss / baja legend mtz / MTZ P3 / baja legend exp / cooper discoverer stt pro / rugged trek with size 285/70R17mt at 33.03" or even bigger yokohama geolandar x at 33.1".

Just thought of putting some of these tires as many in this forum think 285/70R17 does not have true 33in tire. There are plenty. :D:D

Put them on, and fix whatever issues come up. Easy, done. 285’s are a norm now, nothing new.

I'm running 285 Wildpeak AT with TRD Rims with an Eibach lift 2.5in in the front and 3in in the back. I know the MT have more aggressive treads and I barley rubbed on the liners in the front. I did get a BMC because when I was getting my lift, why not just get it done too. But nowhere near would it rub the body area on mines after the BMC. As for the liner, after moving it up a little, the rubbing was gone. But again, that's with the AT tires. I'm going to suspect you'll rub more with the MT.
