Cargo cover handle repair

Anyone got a creative solve for cargo handle that's ripped through the attachment holes? Pretty sure I'm priced into buying an entire cargo cover assembly to fix that one part, seems unnecessary.

 

I'd ditch the plastic handle, two pieces of plate aluminum, with the cover sandwiched in between with some bolts creating the pinch through the plates.

Unless you're into the OEM look, in which case buy a new cover

 

If it were me I’d drill new holes though both the handle and the fabric and then attach the handle with a couple of binding barrels/screws. They’re very low profile. McMaster has them in black.

 

In this area fb marketplace there are 10 or 12 4runner cargo covers for sale every week, most for moderate price, some free.

Ha! Thanks everyone. I might see if there's a cheap / free one eventually (don't use it much) or try the binding barrels.

 

I’ve used this adhesive for re-gluing boot soles. It works great. It might be worth a try for your cargo handle. And on that broken-free end maybe install a small barrel screw to be more secure. Or even just a short low profile pan head screw.

Double up on it by Also along with this glue I would add some leather sewing around the inward part of the handle because not a lot surface area there these leather sewing awl are a mere $15 and have many other uses.
