FYI the Scorpions are specd to be 41 pounds in the OEM size. That’s one of the reasons I picked them — not too heavy.

For people that have gone to 285 70 17s, are you having gear hunting issues on the highway? This was one of the main reason I sold my 2017 tacoma TRD pro. It was all over the place on any type of incline. I was about to order some 285s for my ray10s, but now I'm concerned with the gear hunting issues I've heard that some people have.

The gear hunting issue is one reason I ended up going back to 265’s. Driving around town was fine but out on the highway running 75-80mph is where I noticed it. Going up any decent size grade would kick it down to 4th and sometimes 3rd. It still does it with 265’s but not nearly as bad. Usually just a drop to 4th gear. On average, I put about 30k miles a year on my vehicle with work and personal use with a lot of that being on the highway. 265’s feel more “drivable “.

One thing I did do was have the KD Max tune done to try and eliminate some of the highway gear hunting. That did help a bit but not enough for my liking.

You did the tune while you had the 285s on? Good feedback, thanks.

That is correct. The tune did make certain things better even with the 285’s. Now that I’m back on 265’s, the changes with the tune are more noticeable.

buy3 get 1 free deal from Yokohama in November that I couldnt pass up.
I dont miss the stock tires at all. The Bridgestone dueler HT's were the worst tires I've ever had.

Hatred for Bridgestone Dueler HT runs strong on this website. Absolute garbage traction in rain, sleet, snow. Replaced mine after 2 years and 34,000 miles of absolute frustration. Living in snowy New England,I have to have good winter tires.

These are the wheels I want to get. What color are these and do you think this setup with 285/70/17 will fit on 2023 TRD PRO without any modifications?

Depending the style of TRD wheels you are after, give this site a look. We bought a set from them to replace the oem 20” wheels on our ‘15 Limited.

Did you have to do a BMC? To fit those 285s I got got a pair I have a 17/8.5 -6 offset tires with 2.5 front lift and spcs ucas

I’m getting the same wheels 17x8.5 -10mm offset. I have 2023 TRD PRO, getting the Wescott lift kit and looking to get 285/70r17 WildPeak AT3W. Wondering if I need to do any minor fender mods? Remove the front mud flap? Hoping not to have any mods done. Do I need BMC?

Short answer, yes, but now having 265’s, I still have gear hunting on the highway, especially in winds

I think you should be fine with a good alignment. I rubbed on the body mount at full lock left and right in reverse once and awhile with Summit Dakar's and they were -25 I think. At -10 you should be good to go with out a bmc. If you plan on running spacers then that might be a different story
