I read somewhere that new map versions can be downloaded to a computer, moved to a usb thumb drive, and then updated by plugging the usb drive into the dash. I’ll look for the source…

I have a 2021 SR5 and mine didn't come with the built in navigation system. If I press map button I get the no map message. If I plug in my Iphone with Apple Talk then it will show the Apple Map from the Iphone. Are you sure yours came with the Navigation system?

I used this method to update my audio system firmware and navigation firmware but no idea how to update to newer maps.

That is very strange 4runners not to have built in navigation. For a long time all trims had built in navigation.

There's a move away from built in nav to Android Auto or Carplay. My former 21 Tacoma also had the map button but no built in nav. Without AA running if you hit the button you got the same message as OP did. With AA running, if you hit the button, it was a shortcut to AA / Google maps.

    Not all. SR5 certainly didn't.

Just checked the specs for the 2021 TRD off road and it didn't come with the Navigation feature standard, it was an option. The 2021 TRD off road premium did have Navigation as standard.
