I am looking to purchase a 2016 SR5 which I am hoping is a clean SUV. I have to travel out of state and the owner sent me the attached picture. I saw something in one of the pictures that concerned me a bit. I am going to inspect in person prior to purchase, but wanted to get an opinion on what it could be, or if anyone has ever seen anything like it. The picture is not very good resolution...so apologies for that. Thank you in advance! RoddIMG_1569.jpg

Difficult to determine from one photo, do have other photos of the underside ? How many miles on the truck ?

Thanks for the response! This is the only photo that I have of this area. 116K. Here are some other areas of the underside.IMG_1570.jpg IMG_1571.jpg

Am I crazy or does this side of the frame look like it was cut into 3 pieces and welded back together? Not even good welds, looks like 3 tac welds on the outside here in the back. I thought mine looked like one piece when I installed sliders? Don't remember it looking like that

I think there is a frame seam. Other than the OP’s concern, I think the underside looks very clean. The rear differential looks new?
Must not be a rust belt car. From what I’ve seen, the factory skid plates are the first thing to rust out and those in the picture look good.

Might want to check and see if there’s an accident report on it.
Like I said, the rear differential looks new?

Had to look at my truck frame. The line you see is the normal stiffening sections of the frame, you can also see the line in the last photo. Looks rust free under there and no rock scrapes, truck must have spent its time highway or city driving, 116k is just broken in for these if correctly maintained, if city driven oil changes should have been done at 5k or less. I have a fairly rust free truck and all stickers on shocks, diffs, tow hitch and other parts are still under there.

Yep, seeing the video they are clearly seams that are fully welded. Must be bad light reflection - the photo looks like open gaps between frame pieces with just a few tac welds. Was wondering how it was even holding itself together!

From the video it looks very clean - probably cleaner than my 2019

What's the asking price on the truck and what state, private sale or dealer, SR5 base or premium ?

That's got less surficial rust than my '21 with 7500 miles.
