    1995 22RE 5speed Manual
I have been driving my little 1995 22RE 5sp manual around for about 15years. I've done a few repairs along the way because mechanics are expensive (ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, cv axle). I probably haven't treated her as well as I should have, but she has always been good to me. After a bit of power loss recently, I'm planning to do some diagnostics and repair/replace all of the parts that I should have been checking up on along the way. I'm going to try to see if she can make it to 500,000. This forum looks like it has some great info. Thanks for having me.

Welcome from Wisconsin! I had a 22RE, it was a great little engine, unpowered, but very durable. 500K is just around the corner!

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
You and I have a fairly rare 4R, many Toyota folks don’t even know the 1st gen driveline (sans straight ft axle) was available in the 2nd gen. I believe the 22RE/2nd gen 4R was the last model with the gear drive transfer case Toyota brought into the US(twin sticks possible).
Mine still has the original ball joints and u-joints after 33yrs/260k. I grease them a couple times a year. You can pull the plugs on the ball joints and replace them with zerks, I can’t remember if they are 6mm or 1/4-28 thread. If you get angled zerks you can position them on the lower ball joints so when the steering is at full lock in one direction they are accessible to grease(V6 models too).
Has the plastic timing chain guides been replaced and upgraded to aftermarket metal ones?
The TPS become bit tricky to adjust when the throttle body butterfly shaft becomes wobbly from wear on the throttle body shaft bore. The plan is to machine it and install bushings(someday).
