Recently found a 1989 4Runner with 150,000 miles selling for $8000. The thing looks to be in mint condition given the year and mileage with no rust on exterior or underneath and perfect interior. All the mechanicals are in like new working condition too. Can anyone tell me if this is a fair deal?

Thinking about getting a new paint job.. Purple metallic or pearl, I'm not sure yet.
I would think so. But it sounds like there might be a catch... That just sounds too good to be true. Look up the blue book value with the Vin and see what pops up. If you can't find anything wrong in the history report, I say go for it

Thanks ToyotaKat. Can't even look up the BB value for an '89 - too old!. Carfax is super clean and shows the truck spent most of its miles in CA then looks to spent a good 10 years in a garage somewhere in Michigan with very little miles out on it. My only concern is that I have never purchased a car this old and I intend to drive it - not just look at it. It will be a second ride but still it will get miles on it.

I agree. Toyotas are good solid vehicles too. If I were you, I'd go for it.

Is it squatting in the rear or loaded down? Under side looks good, but not perfect. Regardless, with demand high, $8K is a good price. I just paid slightly more for my pristine '87 SR5 Turbo Manual that had been fully restored and only has 111K on the odometer, 10K on the engine, and 1K on the Marlin transmission.

Why don't you like the 3.0? Is it because people put the head gasket on upside down causing the motor to overheat? I've found plenty of the 3.0 with lots of miles on them and they are still running around. With that said I am a 22REC fan but the V6 is a good motor.

$8000 is way too much for that 4runner they have shity 3.0 motors they blow head gaskets even if they get a little hot the best 4runner out is the 3ed 4th 5th gen 4runner with the 3.4 engine they will go 400.000 miles or more if you maintain them like timing belt and water pump with idler pulleys every 100.000 miles keep the oil clean just basic maintenance thats a fact i know my last 4runner went 479.300 miles before it gave up but i beat the shit out of it .
