So what is this supposed to mean - that he staged it? That's exactly what you are implying despite your "just my 2C."

All cities have their areas but I'll say that sounds pervasive. TX is NOT like that at all. People know homeowners are likely armed... :D

Just a thought, I'm a creature of habit as we all tend to be. He shouldn't be penalized for having put his stuff in his home where he normally does. No one ever expects to be hit like that and we all can't be paranoid in our homes all the time. Do your best to make your home as safe as you feel it needs/should be.

Glad you are safe. Maybe it's time for some security to be addressed though...

Got the truck back just now. All good with zero damage. At least I’m ending the day with a small win.

RE: home security. We have an alarm system (no cameras) but only turn it on when we leave the house. I’ve had a loaded 12 gauge next to my bed ever since my boys were old enough to know how to use it safely. Tweaker was lucky I didn’t wake up. Re-keyed the house and the 4Runner today. Other than a moat and a dragon not sure what else I could do.

    Too bad about your stuff.

But you and your wife are alive and are not physically hurt. I'd call that the best outcome for this bad situation.

Anyone who is crazy enough to burgle a house w/ people in it is crazy enough to do anything, including but not limited to fatal violence.

You feel violated and you're mad enough to spit 9mm rounds. That's natural. It'll take a while to get back on an even keel.

    But it's over now.

    And another plus.

This is America. Anyone can sue anyone for anything. Had you harmed those Shitbirds, even when they were in your house committing a crime, you might have been tied up with lawyers for the next ten years.

It sucks man. I've been through gettin ripped off, they got all my guns, the wife's jewelry and lots of other stuff. It still pisses me off, but we survived and avoided lawyers.

I'm still pissed that they didn't take the (now ex) wife and leave the guns...

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
An ex girlfriend's Mazda 3 got eaten up with coastal air exposure. I can vouch for this. The salt in the air is enough to do it.

Don't blame me, I voted for Trump.
I have a Simplisafe home system, inexpensive, works great, no contract , camera's upload to cloud and monitored. As back-up, I have a Sig P365 9mm on the bed stand and just got a Bersa Thunder 380 (conceal carry) which is a awesome little gun.

Note: Dog on the left, 15 years old now, definitely not a guard dog.

I’ve got 5 dogs. They all love sleeping and are lazy for the most part. if there’s any sound from the garage, a door, a window being opened, the first to bark is the chihuahua. The others will follow him if there’s actually something going on but they won’t wake up or start barking for the smallest noises like the chihuahua.
he’s my alarm and the others are the confrontational ones

These work great. I initially had them just so my kids wouldn’t go outside without me knowing when they were little. But they really make it hard to get in. Use 3” screws and it’s even tougher. Seen videos of people trying to break a door down and it’s very difficult.

Glad you got the runner back. On that door with the doggie door, make sure that it is double keyed. That is open by a key from both sides. Then keep key out of reach of doggie door.

I leave the keys in my room, on dresser. They will never look there, because my puppy will be alerting me way before they even get to the house door.

Like majority of responders I to was very sad to hear of the theft but elated to hear that you recovered the big ticket item! I sorta wish I didn't read the thread though as I was born in San Diego and raised for awhile in La Jolla - sorry to hear that it has become a crime community. I was there in the late 40s/early 50s - have great memories. Also those trail pics you posted really brought out the desire to return to the area for a "last great ride". When I was in the Navy I spent a lot of time on a dirt bike on the outskirts of SD and also around El Centro and Glamis - love the area! Stay safe my friend and enjoy them hills!

Tiny item, very high value. Easy to claim it was stolen, pocket $30k in insurance, and either keep the watch or resell it and pocket that $$ as well.

    Not that OP did that.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
We have one of these overlooking our driveway for the last 4 years, cheap. Works great for us and for other things too, like when deliveries are made…..etc.
Edit: just noticed this is a newer version of ours and the reviews are not that great.

Have had a 12ga pump in the bedroom for years but would really hate to shoot someone unless I had no other choice. We've since added cameras outside of all doors to our house and changed the lock on the doggie door to a double key version so no one can reach in and unlock it. Lastly, started turning on our alarm at night (which we never did).

On a happier note I spent the last 4 days in mammoth mountain. Snowed a ton and the roads were super dicey. The 4 runner performed flawlessly.
