Said she was coming up on a cross street and a car pulled out in front of her but was about 8 to 10 car lengths ahead so she doesn't even know if she hit the brakes but her dash lit up red with the brake warning light and a buzzer then went right off. the book says doesn't necessarily mean a malfunction but contact dealer. also says could be low break fluid. She says it hasn't been back on.Its a 2022 with 6000 miles, wouldn't think low break fluid. any suggestions?

If it's a '22, it could have just been the TSS telling her to brake, or trying to brake for her. My work truck lights up the dash anytime I come up behind another vehicle faster than it likes.

Sound like the TSS did what it is suppose to do.... Shock you into action to put the Brakes on NOW! I had mine go off once and Yeah it certainly got my attention quick and that is just what the Toyota is suppose to do. as for Low brake Fluid Quick easy check of that is open the hood and look at the Brake fluid reservoir and you can see the liquid level easy and the full markings on it but I doubt there is an issue there.

    Haha!

The issue I have is that it doesn't know whether you're approaching a vehicle turning off, cross traffic, or a brick wall. So, it always reacts as though you're approaching a wall or stopped/stopping vehicle.

If it's anything like my wifes Honda Pilot, the 'radar" will randomly set the BRAKE alarm off when another car is still a quarter mile away. One of the reasons I'll probably keep my 2019 Runner forever...

You are good to go. The TSS is programmed to calculate speed and the distance between an object that comes in front of it. It's a warning to the driver to brake to avoid a collision. The warning is red or amber colored. If it was a malfunction, it would be white on the display and it will also show on the radio display.

I was just complaining about this on another thread :p

Also don't panic if 4Runners with TSS decided to apply hard brakes a vehicle in front of you turn right and stop for that lane traffic (even there is not a single vehicle in front of you). Hope the person behind you don't crash in to you or get angry thinking you have applied brakes for no reason. :p

TSS on mine has acted strange on two occurrences. Each time it was a merging right turn onto a continuing moving traffic lane.

Halfway through the turn/merge it would activate. I am unsure if this was due to the lane lay out or the yellow directional pylons.

On the 3rd time in the same area, with a slight amount of brake pressure, all acted normal.

This has made me become a little more gun shy on clover leaf s and same lane merges going forward.

Each time, the front sensor was clean and not blocked. I honestly believe the sensor logic is just in the infancy stages in regards to go, no go situations.

I believe you can adjust the sensitivity of the distance in front of you that the warning will activate. You may have it set to high. I think its in the menu options on the display between the rpm and speedometer.

    It’s very sensitive in Toyotas.

At least you aren't in an 18 wheeler with it automatically hard braking at shadows from the overpass or tar lines as you approach at highway speed.
    I've heard of that happening.

You can "Adjust" it since it is a simple menu driven selection for LTA, LDA and the PCS they are delivered at full sensitivity and you can dial it down some or turn off.
