Been Playing with 4 Runners for ,,I don't know 15-20 years, my wife likes them.
Been her daily for, I think this is the 4th one we've owned. I like them, parts are cheap, and they're not to bad to work on.
Our current one is a 99, V6. We just upgraded to a bigger boat 2600lbs, and well the ole girl is kinda lacking, 286k, recent work? fuel pump, re-sealed the top end, rebuilt almost all of the front end, still have control arms to do, fresh tune up, when I re-sealed everything.
What I'm looking for is power upgrades to help with the extra load.
Already plan on a trans cooler and gauge, stiffer sshocks and 2" lift in the rear.
Was thinking a cold air setup might help.
I'm hopefull I can get some good solid suggestions.
Thank In advance for all comments,,,

Cold Air Intakes don't do didly.

If they did, the engineers would have already done it.

There are no performance upgrades short of the supercharger you could get on these.

Other than the supercharger that already been mentioned, refinishing the interior surface quality of the the intake manifold will help, things like removing the steps in the flow path, filling the gaps, rounding the corners and making the surfaces as smooth as they can be.

The cold air intake is unnecessary. When towing there are 2 things you need: cooling and brakes.

I'd do this where you add an extra fan between the radiator and the grill that can be controlled manually. I believe the OP said it made a difference in engine temperature.

The next mod is the Tundra brake upgrade. Larger brakes will handle extra weight without causing fade. Plenty of people have done this one.

Obviously an external trans cooler like you said is a requirement for so many reasons.

I wouldn't add anything that might cause more stress like a supercharger. But that is my personal opinion. If you want longevity, the less stress the better.

Do you have a link to the brake upgrade? I like the extra fan idea, not sure what year it was but one of our other previous 4Runners had an extra fan
always thuoght it was factory, only came on when the ac was running. But it was a NM rig.
Thank you all for the insight, will post more on this rig
