    Hello Friends,

I have searched for the exact title listed above and I have not seen any prior threads about it :(

So I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased and installed the Long Range Auxiliary Fuel Tank (24gal) from Long Range America (linked below).

    https://exitoffroad.com/product/5th-gen-4runner-lexus-gx460-long-range-auxiliary-fuel-tank-24gal/

    https://longrangeamerica.com/product/tl460gxa24g-us/

Curious if they work well and if anyone has ever installed and used one.

I just really want to drive a whole day without filling up :(

    Thanks in advance.

That’s pretty awesome IMO. If I spent more time out and about I would get it.

At first I thought why the additional 1+ gallon over stock, Then realized it replaced the spare tire.

This would open up long range possibilities, I didn't research this tank but would the additional weight requires suspension upgrades?

Additional edit: I apologize, Welcome to the forum from North Carolina.

from some website: "A U.S. gallon of unleaded gasoline weighs an equivalent of 6.1 pounds. This is not as heavy as an imperial gallon of gasoline which weighs an equivalent of about 7.2 pounds. The weight is further broken down to 2.7669 liters (6.1 pounds) for a gallon of unleaded gasoline and 3.2659 (7.2 pounds) liters for an imperial gallon of gasoline."

6.1lbs x 24gallons should only weigh 146.4 pounds if I did my maths right :)

and I APOLOGIZE! Because I forgot to mention... HAPPY ALMOST NEW YEAR EVERYONE :)

I might be crazy but I literally only want it so I can drive to my In-Laws in Colorado on one tank lol and it may be handy when the world ends...

Your math is right;) Call it 175#s with the tank, plumbing and pump. Very easy to run on stock suspension too!

I honestly have no clue but the basic description from the website is below:

    • Suits Lexus GX460 (all years) and 5th Gen 4Runner (2010+), with or without KDSS
    • This is an additional tank that goes behind the rear axle, it holds 24 gallons, and uses a transfer pump to fill your main tank when you hit a switch
    • 24 gallon capacity, fits in the void behind the rear axle and in front of the rear bumper, requires relocation of the stock spare tire
    • 24 gallons plus your original 23.75 gallon tank gives you a capacity of 47.75 gallons in total!!
    • SPLIT FILL – Single fill point with no diversion – fuel flows into both tanks until both are full
    • Tank uses a transfer pump to fill the main tank, 2L per minute pump rate
    • No Exhaust modification required
    • Spare tire must be relocated
    • Fitting time – approximately 5 hours
    • New design, suits models with or without KDSS
    • Usually stocked item in the US
    • Part Number TL460GXA24G-US
    • Intended to be installed by a certified mechanic
    • Installation Instructions
    • This item ships on a pallet to the nearest Truck Freight terminal for you to pickup. We will be in touch with you regarding the nearest freight terminal, unless you add home delivery.
    • Call or email to check and verify stock before ordering
    • This product can not be sold or shipped to residents in California. Do not order this product if you live in California!!

Yeah, I read, "SPLIT FILL – Single fill point with no diversion – fuel flows into both tanks until both are full".

That's handy. I'm honestly super intrigued. I love being able to go longer distances on a tank. I'm kind of at my "mod budget" for the time being, but down the road I would seriously consider this.

PS- Welcome to the forum, OP! And happy New Years everyone.

I know right... I just really want to find someone who has used this before I buy it :)

This would increase my range to 600 miles on a single fill up :bananadance:

It's an Aussie company, and from their website it looks like the majority of their business is Landcruisers and Land Rovers. You'd probably get more feedback searching it with those vehicles than with 4Runners, and at least you could get an idea about common issues or satisfaction rates.

I watch a video vlog on YouTube by a couple who travel the world with their Landcruiser (Dirt Sunrise Adventures), and they installed an aux fuel tank. It wouldn't surprise me if it was this brand, but I don't know for sure.

    Asking for a friend...........

Any DOT specs/approval on the tank?

If one gets in a wreck, no matter who's fault and someone is gravely injured or just injured due to this tank rupturing....
    What's the liability?

No DOT sticker or papers. Methinks it may not be a good thing.

    Think Ford Pinto.

The stock 23 gallon tank will get me further than my bladder so there’s that. Plus thanks to my worn out knees, I need to get out and stretch every couple of hours.

I suppose if you can figure out where to stow your spare then it might be worth considering.

They make it VERY clear on the website that it is illegal to install in California, and won't be shipped there. California has some asinine laws, but that tells me that they probably haven't done much DOT "approvaling".

This is a VERY good point.

Although one has to ask what will happen to those boys who mount the wavian fuel cans on the rear bumper.

I imagine if those are legal to mount on the bumper then this probably isnt an issue outside commiefornia.

They're not giving them away. Thats for sure.

The Landcrusier I had when working in central Australia had something like this. It worked well and was essential since towns were days apart and miles of washboard highways.

ahhh I found a guy who did it. And the guys who installed the tank are local to Albuquerque where I live :)

Here is the video from 2 years ago BEFORE they had made a 5th gen 4runner specific tank (so they did a little cutting and stuff)

If I had more years ahead of me I might consider such a mod - I really enjoy doing mods that don't necessarily affect the visual appearance of the 4Runner but positively affect it's performance - in this case longer range. I think it a cool idea.
