I have a 2016 4Runner Limited with 48k miles and I‘ve put almost every mile on it…bought new. It’s been garaged and very low mileage. Never driven off road and very well maintained. That said, I’ve just been told that my X-READ suspension is shot and will be 4200.00 to replace. I did a bit of research and I’m seeing this is an ongoing problem with this system and Toyota doesn’t really do much or care about it. This is my 3rd 4Runner and may be my last if quality has gone down this much to the point an entire suspension needs replaced at 48k miles. Is anyone else having this problem and what was the resolution. At this point my warranty is out as it will be 7 yrs old soon.

Replace with aftermarket shocks springs. Won't be smooth like the XREAS but no where near the cost.

Covered tons of times go look in the suspension section for all the different brands you can replace it with.

Sorry I have no experience in XREAS failing as I removed them pretty early since I wanted to lift. I have tried Bilstien5100 and now I have Ironman foamcell pro. But none of them were good as XREAS on pavement. Here's my non-professional video testing Ironman on pavement potholes, hard cornering one and dirt road driving. Hope this might give some idea. But nothing works better than experience in different suspension in person even though its impossible.

What Kmeeg said. XREAS is great when it works but not worth replacing. I had a ‘10 Limited and the XREAS went out around 70k miles. Had it quoted around 2016 for $4k. Don’t ditch your truck. Replace the whole system with aftermarket suspension for 1/2 the money or less and keep your truck and enjoy.

Just wondering for future reference, What did you end up going with?

I enjoy this so much more than my 2021 SR5 Premium.

    Thanks in advance,

Lol, I wish I could tell you I replaced it but I did not. I drove it for another 30k miles and then traded it in. Believe it or not, the degradation in shock performance was so gradual that I really didn’t notice it till the end and by that time I was already planning on a trade. If I was going to keep it, my plan was Bilstein 6112 fronts and 5160 rears. It developed a deep engine leak, so I was told by the dealership (Kendall Toyota in Miami) and quoted $6k for the repair so I was done. Now I have a ‘22 SR5 and I’m putting on Dobinsons IMS next month because that was my plan when I purchased it.

In this time and current status, this is what I love to hear. I honestly & sincerely appreciate this response to my question.

I believe we have around 1,500 miles, and can sleep well for a few months knowing the lions share of work will be on the 2007 Tundra,

I ditched my X-REAS in my 4th gen 4Runner after front struts crapped out twice. Those were good for only about 6 years for me before they started leaking again. I went with Bilstein 5100 and wish I've done it sooner. Ride is just as good and no $$$$$ X-REAS to worry about.
