What oil and weight do you all use. How many stick with toyo oil.
everyone this is not a what oil is better debate, there all good it they meet spec.
Just want to know what most use.
I'm leaning towards Castrol 0w-20 with a genuine toyota filter, ours is a 2021 4x4 SR5. Maybe the gold bottle but keep 10k changes. The 20k oil is only 2 bucks more for 5 quarts.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W20 with a Toyota filter every 5,000 miles. I feel very uncomfortable with 10,000 miles changes and would NEVER even consider 20,000. Make sure to put some anti seize on the skid plate bolts.

I live in Sunny CA, so run 5W-30 Synthetic. Usually Supertech, but I may change brands next oil change. 5,000 miles between changes. Supertech, or Purolater filter.

Thanks for the tip. I guess I need a special wrench for the oil filter also.

Looking at some on Amazon. Some people show broken wrenches, looks like some are just cheap castings
The Motivx looks like a quality wrench.
    Thanks all
Haven't owned a toyota truck since my 1984 SR5 pick up with 100 horses.

0W20, and for brand I just buy whatever name brand 5QT jug is on rollback and has available matching single quarts.

The last oil change was Pennzoil platinum. I also use either a Toyota or Napa gold filter.

0W20 @ 5k mile intervals. Not picky about brand. I have to date used M1, Toyota, Castrol and Royal Purple.

I use Amsoil but used Kirkland this last change both with the recommended viscosity. Any off the shelf brand of the viscosity listed on the cap will work fine. No need to change anything, think about this more than a few seconds or buy a specific brand. I change it at 5K miles, not 10K.

    Toyota doesn’t make oil either.

Whatever is on sale at the local auto shop. Engine isn't going to blow up because of the oil.

I just change once a year but I also don't drive more than 5k a year.

How much oil consumption were you getting? Were you doing 10k changes before?
Also, I thought toyota branded 0w20 was synthetic like the rest of them.

WOW! Very interesting video. I only use Genuine Toyota 0W-20 oil (Mobile 1 with Toyotas oil additive package) & OEM Toyota oil filters, but I just might start changing my oil @ less than 10,000 miles after watching this. Thanks for sharing!

My runner only gets Penzoil. I research the hell out of everything before I do anything and Penzoil is the one for me. Tests show Amsoil is the best but marginally over Penzoil. I change mine every 5k miles. OEM filter is what I use. Can’t beat it for 6 bucks from the dealership

It’s funny how everyone has their go-to oil. Castrol is a solid oil. I just started using Penzoil.

I would follow the user manual. 0W-20 every 5000miles. Simple.

Too easy. I must question brand, viscosity and intervals.

I have a good friend who is a Toyota mechanic and he was saying the whole 10k miles is total bullshit. All manufacturers are doing this because of the total cost of ownership. I guess people really look at that. I personally don’t because I change my oil every 5k miles. Plus I’m totally pissed at the dealership because they didn’t change the oil filter. I busted them. Be careful when you take it in. They get lazy because they have to drop the skid plate. Never again for me. I do my own oil changes. Pissed me off that a dealership would do that

Ya they make it a p.i.t.a having to drop the skid plate. How many people don't gt there filters changed because of the extra work

Car Care Nut says an oil analysis won't catch this kind of problem.

But can someone tell me why an oil analysis wouldn't catch the increase in metals from the wearing away of the cylinder walls?

One would be amazed at what an inexperienced quick lube tech, backed up with 12-20 oil changes is capable of doing.

I am not generalizing every dealership nationwide, This is only based off of personal field experience.

Sticky talking point.... but general mandatory training and ownership into something IMHO could greatly increase customer service and trust of dealership repairs. I Know this is a long shot, But having worked at an Honorable dealership, I wouldn't have traded what i learned for anything.

Disclosure, These are my opinions and only my opinions.... Plus can sleep good at night, So it cannot be all bad.
