Fog lights

If conditions are right the downward light hitting a road surface shiny with water or ice creates high levels of reflected glare for other drivers.

I stopped caring about if I'm blinding oncoming traffic, since every other car with led lights blinds the fuck out of me. These dd yellow pros give them a taste of their own medicine...

 

or drive with their high beams on. I’m lighting up the interiors of oncoming traffic with my white SS3 Pro fog and I don’t feel bad at all.

 

Nice to know responsible 4Runner owners are not part of the problem...

 

I just put the Diode Dynamics MAX lights on mine and they are insanely bright but most importantly, you can feel the quality

Could be worse. You COULD put led bulbs in you halogen headlights.

Trust me, based on personal experience, DD Pros (I started with the Pro, now have the Max) aimed incorrectly are far worse than any drop in LED bulbs in headlight housings designed for halogen bulbs. Way worse. I hope one - or both - of those members somehow find themselves on the opposite side of an intersection from me while pulling that crap. I'll be more than happy to melt their retinas.

 

Yes dd fogs need be adjusted/aimed when installed....

 

I’ve experimented with mine quite a bit. Even when aimed very far too low, the glare is still evident on street signs 50 yards down the road.

 

Do these fit the Limited Bumper? Looks the same..

Amen. Blinding someone is not cool. Plus with the amount of road rage going on why is it necessary to blind someone

 

When I get blinded I just think to myself “I never want to be that guy”.

 

I bought Morimoto 4Banger HXB's for the fogs, walked down the street and turned around to look at the 4Runner. "Nope", uninstalled them and have DD Elite's on my kitchen counter ready to go in this week.

So for ya'll with too bright of lights, don't be a dick, it's real easy to unfuck yourselves. Look at me, I did it.

 

I just passed a new 4R with factory LED’s. Luckily I had my yellow laser glasses on.

 

A big doe crossed the road in front of me, with my 2014 factory LED’s in the Corolla, it seemed to scurry off the road and into the bushes pretty quick.

 

Apparently they don’t like them either.

I put my white SS3 Pro fog lights through a rigorous test this week with a long road trip and here is what I found:

1. Winding unlit mountain roads that I used to struggle seeing, now I have no more problems seeing. I can see everything extremely clear on the side of the road even when it was raining.

2. In sections of unlit or poorly lit 4 to 6 lane freeways I can pretty much light up all lanes. On freeways with low or no middle divider, i also light up all of the lanes in oncoming traffic

3. I aimed the lights just a tad lower than my low beams to help with distance lighting.

4. With the beam height and spill over, I can see reflective road signs much better.

5. Even though I light up interiors of other cars, no one has flashed me yet.

6. Thinking of getting white SS3 Max fog lights for my Tacoma because the Pro is so good so the Max should be even better.

 

Ignorance on my part, but it seems no matter what you get, aftermarket makes OEM look like crap?

 

I'm literally SICK, of people weaponizing their lights and exhaust.. everyone is just SO ready to tell someone else to fuck off or .. .. sad state we're in and so far from what was intended for us.

I'd avoid any cheap eBay or Amazon fog lights. Also, be sure to look for SAE compliant lights if you want to use them on the road. Diode Dynamics SS3 is generally considered the best.

 

Having run the Pros and then moving up to the Max due to too many people flashing me - despite proper aim - I can offer some advice here. Going to the Max will be somewhat paradoxical. The Max is clearly more powerful than the Pro, but the main difference is a much tighter (top to bottom) beam pattern. So, although the Max puts out more light, it's much more focused. To some, this will appear as less light - particularly the spill from the Pro that illuminates things further down the road. Knowing this, hopefully you can make the best decision for you on which to go with. Me, I'm very happy with my Max fogs.

 

The answer to your question depends on what you consider "crap." The OEM fogs - particularly the LED fogs - aren't half bad. Some aftermarket fogs are a pretty decent upgrade from OEM though - especially if you know what a true fog pattern light is supposed to do. (Near field and peripheral vision using a wide, flat beam pattern.)

If you judge a fog light based on what it looks like looking at it from the front of a vehicle and believe one that blinds you more is better, that's another story.
