Love my truck but the premium JBL system leaves a lot to be desired. What, if any, are some of the cheaper options for improving the sound on this system? I know of the OEM+ systems but those are a bit pricey.

Swapped the source (HU) , slapped 2 amplifiers in, with drivers front doors and dash and subs. Used a ton of Second Skin dampener, Also gained a ton vehicle info, (Maestro/Idata link) right on the HU in the process. Win. And it sound awesome. Im a huge music/car audio lover, and its a must in my rigs. Just me.

Its all up to you, how deep you want to go. All of it is easy to do.
(i didnt want the jbl "upgrade". Ditching what it had, was a no brainer for me)

I was going to upgrade, but the reality is, unless you have high quality streaming audio coming in, you are never going to get great audio. We have been subjected to MP3 audio for a long time.
I use Tidal now ( spotify is okay and Amazon prime has good quality too), and its awesome in the house. In the 4Runner Limited, not so much. Even with Phone hooked up via aux cable.

Install a kicker key 200.4 amp it has a built in DSP which will help make the truck sound a lot better at least for the front sound stage. Download high quality music from tidal or Spotify as others have said.

The days of throwing some 6x9s and a bass box in the back of a car.. Lol.
Tech has slowed and hindered us.
