There’s a calculator for this online (tire size.com), here are the results for my specific example (285/70 Load C’s)

This calculator is the reason I asked the question. There is no way I'm running 26psi per that calculator.upload_2022-12-23_19-44-25.jpg

Lt tires are designed to run at higher pressure. I can't elaborate, though. It's way above my pay grade. :D

Definitely! Please post pictures of the tread after 40K miles at that pressure. ;)

Why not? Bigger footprint= increased load carrying capacity. I would try it out, and adjust if it feels too mushy.

Will be annoying to see the TPMS warning all the time and would not notice if there is really a puncture and tire is at low air pressure. so running at regular psi.

I ignore the low pressure sign on the dash half of the year, so it wouldn't bug me. But, I'd probably end up at 30-32 anyway. My 285's are LT, so 38 is recommended. I usually run a pinch lower, though.

We run Cooper LT's in 275-70-17. In the summer we run 38psi., in the winter we run 36psi. On a trail in the summer we run 26-28-30psi. These pressures are from the experimenting technique, although I used the 'online calculator' for a baseline. Good luck.

    32psi.

So much more comfortable on the road.

    Recommended psi be damned!

I like running a tad on the low side. Basically I set it to the 32 psi cold as recommended on the placard inside the door (I run OEM tire size) but don’t bother when the actual psi drops a little from colder weather or normal leakage. Today I drove off in 11 degree temps and the computer said my tires were at 29/30. Within several miles they were 32. All good. Better than too high in wintry conditions. Plus I think low pressures may reduce steering wheel shimmy. Mine is intermittent anyway, but on the highway today at 32 psi it was smooth as butter.
