    Sorry to leave you hanging,

His response was basically the general consensus on this thread.

Shame on the dealership and its certainly undesirable but since it was discovered and corrected, it's not the end of the world.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Chances are you will trade it long before any kind of engine failure. If it's principle you're after, you should push the issue to see what freebies you get. But most likely they will offer another free oil change.

After my 1st free oil change, my engine sounded louder/ more rattly than before. I think they used the wrong oil but there was no real way to prove it since the paperwork shows 0W-20.

I skipped the 2nd free oil change because of corona and I felt bad for letting the freebie go. After doing the second oil change myself, my engine was much quieter, like how it originally sounded new from the dealer. Now after my experience I wish I would have the skipped the 1st free oil change as well.

No problem, I keep my vehicles longer than most guys keep their wives. I average at least 20 years with my Toyota's and previous Honda.

Of course before I discovered Toyota, I drove Fords and those cars barely lived 5 years without major issues.

Where's the OP? Would be nice to know what came of his dealer visit but he seems to have gone missing.

Always curious. Since it was his second post and he has been 'in house' since he said he was going to the dealer. It makes one wonder. Ya know? 2 and through.

A time stamp would be helpful. I tried to watch 'towards the end' and came up with nothing...video is an hour and a half.

I've always done my own oil change because of all the problems stated above and including my own with my tundra, it came with five years free oil change, started to do it after and 2 or 3 bolts for the skid plate was missing.

So 4runner gets done by me.
I've ordered OEM oil filters from Amazon and the box has the correct part number (04152-YZZA5) but wanted to make sure its actually the correct filter in the box since I don't have anything to compare it to, if someone has the correct filter sittingin the garage, can you please measure the height? Probably not necessarily but the width too? Thanks Gents. 20221221_090952.jpg

The filter itself is 3 1/4" long, also there are numbers inside of the pleats of the filter itself (15613-YZZA2)

I thank you Sir! That is what I have. Same number and 3 1/4" long. What I don't get is, why toyota wouldn't just put the same part number that's on the box, crazy!

I also drove Fords . I managed to get 10 years out of my 2010 Explorer before trading it in on the 2020 4runner. The Explorer value was less than $3,000 trade-in value. A 10 year old 4 runner is till worth at least $7k

because they aren’t the same thing, the part number on the filter is the part number of the filter. The part number on the box is the part number of the kit - filter, drain, and 2 o-rings.

hmmm, when I bought my filter at the dealership, they sold me the o-ring separately. Guess it was a quick little screwing.

I’d rather have that runner, looks nice.

I sometimes regret selling it, but I couldn't justify having 3 vehicles. One had to go.

SnakeDoc, was looking at the picts you posted. Noticed it doesn't state country of manufacturer like the Amazon pict. ( Thailand ) Car Care Nut ( Toyota Tech ) on YouTube has video on how to spot fakes. He recommended Toyota dealers, they must sell true Toyota parts. Maybe on other side of box? Anyway just wanted mention. Cheers.

The o-rings, for the filter housing, are part of the kit. The crush washer for the oil drain plug is not included, so that is sold separate.

RubiRunner, I had no idea, good spot! No where on the box does it say where it's made, they are going back and buying from a dealer from now on.
    Thank you Sir.

Wow. Very lucky. I bought the same used green colored 1999 T4R (about 175k miles) version over a decade ago for under $5k at a dealership. For a younger relative.

It's fine, not ideal but it will be fine.
Cut your next filter apart and check it. Odds are you will see almost nothing in the filter.

I actually busted the dealer for NOT CHANGING THE FILTER. I had a feeling they didnt drop the skid plate the first time. The second time i took it in, I put different color marks on each bolt and took a picture. Sure enough when I got it back all the bolts and colors matched to the original picture. I damn near got arrested (jokingly) how much I flipped out. People are lazy, hence now I only do my oil changes

With all these stories of dealer errors, I could never let them change the oil. It’s too important to do correctly. When I bought my 2016 Tacoma TRDOR, I asked the dealer to give me free oil and filter instead of letting them change the oil. They refused. I will not ask with my 2023 ORP, same dealer. But I have never used the dealer for oil changes whether complimentary from Toyota OR me paying. If I knew the specific guy changing the oil would do it correctly I might. But you can’t know unless you change it the next time and if they screwed up, the damage (whatever there is) is already done. It s a good point about the bypass function. But that feature is based on the assumption that unfiltered oil is better than no oil (complete clog), which is a valid assumption. For those that want to keep there 4R for a long time, we do it ourselves.
