How can you use stock 4Runner roof rack? (No aftermarket roof rack options please)

Hi folks,

Can you share how did you utilize your stock TRD Pro roof rack or standard roof rails with crossbars to mount storage boxes / hi-lift jack / fuel cans?

I was thinking if I could move all this stuff on to the roof rack using the standard cross bars with low cost.


To me the TRD Pro roof rack crossbars and standard roof rail cross bars seems similar. So I guess what ever box or hi-lift jack mount compatible to standard roof rail crossbars should be compatible with TRD Pro roof rack crossbars.

Have you thought of a roof basket? I think you may be able to arrange all of that and a basket, and then mount the high lift to the basket.

Also, I forgot where I saw them, but I saw a round clamps that clamp onto round bar, with brackets on them. You may be able to pick up some of those to mount stuff to the side of your pro rack.

Just curious, do you have sliders? If not, I think the hi-lift is kind of useless. I see you have a come-along there as well, for use a winch. I don't have one yet, but I was planning on picking up a bottle jack to use for tire changes rather than a hi-lift.

 

I am in the same situation since I sleep in my 4Runner. I just purchased a 42" Plano rifle case which fits between the front and back upper bars if you move the front cross bar as for forward as you can (just at the bend). I'm told a Yakima MightyMount 23H does a really good job on the cross bars. I'll have to drill and seal the bottom of the case and reinforce it with a metal bar or plate for the mounting. Sorry for lack of photos. I will try to add these later.

Note 1: The case will only fill one side of your rack, so there is ample room for other gear on the opposite side.
Note 2: Make sure that you can access the end latches if you purchase a cargo box for the top. The Plano is weather sealed and has no end latches. I know at least some of the Pelican Vault cases have end latches.

I think rifle case would be a better looking option.

Yeah, I have sliders to use the hi-lift jack. Hope I would never have to change a tire on a technical terrain.

Anyways with the new baby coming in few days no trail time anytime soon..

Yeah, Plano rifle case would be a better choice. Low profile better looking. Sorry, I missed to respond to your post as well..
