Had this rattle noise lately around 32k miles on my 21 ORP. Sounds like two plastic parts making contact, only does it above 60 65 mph, constantly.

    Had removed cabin air filter/door/cover.
    Removed engine splash guards.
Also checked the large wire loom next to the blower motor and undo the clip still no fix.
Glove box empty, nothing in cup holders
Checked the hood rubber grommets, raised a bit still had the noise.

It’s really driving me insane, any help? Appreciated.

It’s noticeably louder when I remove the side kick panel. I have included a video, it’s weird only having this above 60mph… driving me nuts now.

Maybe something fell inside that area?

ok I found it. Never should I doubt 4Runner quality, it was just a piece of stone end up inside the mud flap. Dead quiet now.

Glad you found it. That sound would drive me completely nuts lol. Thanks for updating…I think a lot of these sounds end up coming from the outside. In winter, if we get a hard freeze after it’s been rained on, my 4runner has gotten all sorts of crazy tapping metallic tapping/rattling sounds. I bet it’s ice trapped in the mud flap.

I had that the other day. I was on the way to work and I heard like a rattling in the cowl area. Started to get annoyed for a minute, then realized I had just scraped the windshield, and it's probably chunks of ice rattling around in there.

After sitting in the sun all day, it was gone when I left work.
