    Howdy all,

Stock? Probably not. Do some looking around here maybe search largest tire size for stock 4 runner and you shall come across all the info you need.

It might depend on the tire brand also. Some have a slightly wider track than others.

No, not all 275's work. Different manufacturers, A/T vs R/T vs M/T.

Use the search function and read. There is a metric shit-ton of info here about it with a bajillion different opinions.

Save your money and do wheels/tires/lift at the same time.

You'd have to try it but the best chance for a 33 to fit would be using stock wheels and something skinny like a 255/80-17.

Reading won’t help. With all the permutations of wheel widths and offsets and actual vs. nominal tire widths and diameters plus whatever degree of lift and whether or not the UCA’s have been swapped out, there’s basically no way to answer the rubbing question unless the question includes the tire brand and model and the wheel width and offset and the degree of lift. And then someone with that exact constellation of features can give you an answer. And even then you will run into guys who are wrong or just full of crap. Recently one guy said “You can literally fit 33s on the 4R with no mods.” And then when I called him on it he admitted that the mud flaps would have to be removed and the fender liner would need to be pushed forward, but then quibbled about whether those counted as mods. If I sound frustrated it’s because I am.

    Welcome!

It's a crap-shoot like mentioned above. A 33" tire can sometimes fit, but requires some trimming and a good alignment. Look up the "fender liner mod" for more on that.

It's also dependant on wheel specs. Stock wheels are your best bet to fit bigger tires without rubbing. Or, something with similar specs.

Plus, a lift doesn't actually clear tires. The alignment and trimming are the main things that give you clearance. The tire ends up in the same place when the suspension is flexed.

Otherwise, a 275/70/17 usually fits without issue, but that size comes in limited options, and most are LT tires which you may or may not prefer.

I would say 99% chance the answer will be no.

Even if 285s would fit up front, it wouldn't look right. If the budget is tight, install a pair of assembled Bilstein 6112s on the top notch (2" lift) up front, then rejoice and put on 285/70r17s all around on stock wheels. You can eventually swap out rear springs when the budget allows and no UCAs are needed.

Top notch on 6112's would be 2.55". I wouldn't go above the 4th or 5th notch without lifting the rear.

And, bigger tires on stock height looks fine to me.

This is were we go as a result of a tire fitment question. :anonymous:

Woe to anyone asking about oil change intervals.

I have 33 x 12.50 on my 4Runner and had to put at least a 3in kit, spacers and minor trimming to fit. You either rub against the A arms or inside wheel well on the plastic. It’s probably not worth the hassle until you can afford sometime of leveling kit or full suspension.

lol, welcome to the forum. There is a bit of an odd humor that can pop up from time to time. It wouldn’t be so weird if certain members :anonymous: wouldn’t egg it on.

    Oil brands and intervals though….

I'm fucking sorry if my post got you all excited only to rip it all out from under you when you realized that moving a piece of plastic 5mm forward was too much of a modification for you. Shame on me for offering up that bit of info.

Here are 285/79/17s (falken wildpeaks) on stock suspension. The only modifications needed were to move the front fender liners forward and front bumper trim in accordance with Toyota's TSB for TRD Pros (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2015/MC-10111359-9999.pdf), as well as trimming the large protruding bump off the front mudflap. All in these changes took about 15 minutes worth of work. I'd hesitate to even call them modifications they were so simple. After that no rubbing even when flexed out off-road.

Amazing people get to put 33’s on there vehicles and be happy, meanwhile I can’t even have smooth Dunlop’s on mine stock and not still fight the shimmy’s.

Get it aligned and have the tires road force balanced, just don't go to toyota, find a quality shop to do it.

can you get a close up picture of the trimmed front mud flap? i'm leaning towards 285s, but would like to keep the front flaps if possible.

The old tell tale is compensation for a small hot dog for the majority. Some people actually utilize the larger tire and or lift for actual purpose & need, and that’s ok.

    I wouldn't even bother with a 275.

Look up the specs, they're quite a bit heavier and more expensive than the same tire in the stock size but barely larger. The weight will kill your fuel mileage.

Going from a stock Dunlop or Dueler to an actual A/T in the same size makes a big difference in looks. An aggressive AT looks a size up from the stock tires.

When I had my stock size Grabber ATX put on, I checked the sidewall because at first glance I thought they went up a size. See pic below, same size tire. 20221209_073921-COLLAGE.jpg
