My missus grabbed a 2013 Forerunner from some place in Texas years ago, and they even drove the damn thing up to her (With improperly installed shock struts, which they paid to have fixed properly at a local mechanic)

Years later now, Last night I'm pulling out of a restaurant and the damned Trac Off & Check Engine light popped on
I've had problems with front tires rubbing when backing out or into a place
So I'm assuming a sensor severely malfunctioned, but I've also noticed my tire lift seems off.

So now I'm worried, what kinda cost of repairs am I looking at fellas, some googling leads me to believe I may be unfortunately approaching a solid 1000$ of repair.

I'd read the code to see what it is. It could be something simple.

^^^ I second what @whippersnapper02 said. Check the code that triggered the lights. It could just be the seal on the gas cap.

Same here- Check Engine and TRAC off. Left cat bank and 2 O2 sensors was what popped up on the codes. 2013 with 145,200 miles. Get it diagnosed asap. $1600 bucks later, my 4runner fanboyism is at a all time low.

Not for nothing, it IS a nearly 10 year old vehicle. Nothing is 100% trouble free.

I only quote this bc these lights just popped up on my own 2013 with 146k miles.

I think it's of my own doing... I was in the middle of the brake job from hell, and the battery died. Jumped it to get it running, and the lights were on.

Current theory is bc the battery got down too low, i'm hoping clearing the codes will do the trick.

It is what it is. There are many codes, I always hope for the self-healers.

Another cause of the Trac Off and check engine light you report is rodent-chewed ignition wires, speaking from experience. I'd pop the hood and do an inspection, if for no other reason, to rule that out.

If that turns out to be the cause, it is covered by your auto insurance, if you have full coverage, minus the deductible.

I had same lights illuminate on my dash and it was park inter lock switch .
Good advice about the rodents chewing wires...that would be a nightmare !
I bought some mighty mint spray at Target and sprayed some around my porch .....and under the hood of the 4 runner.Screenshot 2022-11-24 9.41.21 AM.jpg

Any CEL will trigger the TRAC off light. It's a way to turn off any unneeded functions so there's less potential for damage.

Update, I just replaced my battery and all the lights are now off.

Edit: just going to mention what battery I used. I went with the Everstart Maxx from Walmart. $120, group size 24F, 725cca. When I took the original battery out I noticed it's only 600 cca, so it turns out this is an upgrade.

Project Farm did a battery comparo, this battery did very well against competition costing nearly twice as much.

You didn't fix the problem. You just temporarily reset the lights.
