    Hello fellow T4R’s

I have a 2020 TRD that has developed a rear sag. I upgraded the stock suspension with 5100’s all around, uses stock coil in front/rear. Front is set at 1.75 “.

Front: I’ve added SSO slimline bumper (60#) and Smittybilt X20 winch (65#).

Rear: Drawer system (100#) and camping gear (100#) Total: 200#’s

Between wheels: Me (245#), SSO sliders(100#), Prinsu full roof rack (75#), Tuff Stuff Alpha rtt (180#), Tuff Stuff awning (20#), refrigerator and water jug (100#). Total 720#’s

Currently running 265’s KO2’s, which I want to keep. I’m happy with 5100’s. Without the rtt and camping gear, I run level, but when I load up with rtt and gear, I have a ¾ to 1 inch sag. When loaded I have approx. 560#’s on rear axil.

Question for you suspension experts: I’m thinking of replacing the rear coil with either the Bilstein B12 2” heavy duty rear coil springs (400# constant weight) or the OME 891 rear coil spring (660# constant weight). Will the 2” lift coil will be ok, as I like a slight rack and I can always adjust on the front 5100, and what heavy constant weight coil spring

Be careful, I mentioned the rear sag to my wife and she hasn’t spoken to me since. :homer:

Do you use this as a daily driver or are you using it more as a camping rig?

If you daily drive, id go with the 400lb B12's. Those 660's are going to make it ride like a tank.

You might also consider upping your front coils to a 650lbs or thereabouts. Might as well get 2.5" lift coils or so to set your 5100's back to the 0" mark.

Rear sag is hard with 4Runners. Their payload ratings aren't best. It's a balancing act between stiffness unloaded and sag.

What about Dobinsons coils, any suggestions to match 5100’s?

Dobs coils with the correct height and weight will work fine.

    Tinted fronts, blacked out overlays.
I had a similar issue with the Standard load Eibach springs that come with the Stage 1 Kit. I recently installed the Icon 2” springs while I haven’t loaded the truck up yet, the ride is definitely stiffer but in a good way, It feels more planted. I debated on going with the 3” springs as those are a progressive spring. The Icon 2” springs are 400# loaded but not constant load. The 3” are constant load.

I just had dobs suspension installed. I have extra weight was well but they came out perfect according to the details available on Exit Offroad website. The rear coils were rated for 1.5"-1.75" stock and suggested there is a 1/4" drop for each 100# added weight (using 22" center hub to fender as baseline stock). I have about 130# rear weight and they came out to 1.5" (although may settle a bit).

I'm pretty sure dobs springs can be paired with any shock (especially rear) but you could always PM CrikeyMike to verify.

I have Bilstein 5100’s paired with Dobinsons c59-302 front springs and c59-599 rear springs. I used the 5100’s with stock springs until I added SSO Slimline bumper, winch, sliders and skids. Once these items were added, the handling on the stock springs, especially the front was poor. Changing the stock springs to the Dobinsons gave me right at 2” lift all around with the front 5100’s set at OEM height.
OP, your rig will handle much better with stronger springs as you have added a lot of weight especially in front.
As was mentioned, Mike at Exit Off-road can help you match springs to the shocks you already have to get your rig carrying the extra weight.

    Cheers,
    Bob

I have the B12 heavy coils in the rear and 6112's in front set to 2.3". I maintain a slight rake, even when fully loaded with gear. I also have a few hundred lbs of constant weight.

    Here's how it sits:

Yes, stock Dunlops in the pic. New K02’s in 265-70-17 planned for in a couple of months after the shock of what I’ve spent on everything else wears off…

Eibach load leveling kit might work for you. I've got a somewhat similar setup and used the medium kit. Even at the lowest setting it raised the truck up quite a bit. Rides and drives much better loaded up and not too stiff unloaded.

You've listed 3rd Gen 4runner parts up above, 1996-2002!! None of that fits your 2020.

With the added weight you're running, I'd recommend the C59-327's. Those have the right spring rate to support the weight and give you 2" of lift.

Ok, ordered Dobinsons C59-327 coil. We’ll see what the rear will look after install. I’ll submit a final picture.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

Sounds like you have a plan for the rear now. It appears from the original post that you still have the OEM springs on the front carrying the weight of the hybrid bumper and winch. Have you made a decision about how you want to address the front?

    Cheers,
    Bob

I love my set up. 2” lift Bilstein 6112 w/600 lb coils front, 1.5” lift Eibach T13 coils rear, Bilstein 5100 rear shocks and 285/70/17 Falken WP AT3.

However I dont have the constant rear weight like yours. Not sure if an Eibach T12 coil or Bilstein B12 with a 1.5" lift and a heavy constant load of approximately 400lbs would be the way to go. Fyi: ive loaded 15-18 bags of mulch (20-25lbs each) and the rear may have sagged 3/4-1” and thats with me (230) and a full tank of gas in it.

These do help if they make them for your 4 runner.
I put them on my Tahoe 10+ years ago for lift.
P.I.T.A. to install because you can't just compress them

    Hi all!
Well it’s been 5 mo since the initial post. I took advice and ended up installing Dobs rear coil, C59-327 (2” lift, 220-400# load). This setup works great, for the rear! BobbyB, you asked the obvious question, now that I have a plan for the rear, what about the front? The front needs attention, I have 5100’s with OME coil. Currently, I sit 35” (21” rim to fender) front, 38” (24”) rear. The front 5100’s set at 1.75”. The front I think needs to come up 1-1.5”.
So, I’m thinking of installing Bilstein 6112’s to replace front 5100. 47-311039 (1.7-3.2 lift with heavy front load 150-200#’s coil) This should allow flexibility with 6 clip settings, and a heavier coil. I decided against the 5100’s as they are geared for OME springs and weights.
Sorry for the ramble, but would appreciate thoughts and recommendations!

Nice! Cool to see the update, great info in here.
I actually did OME-884X springs for the 3" lift, with 5100's at 0" stock groove (as opposed to higher spring seat setting if you run OEM springs). I plan to move to the heavy OME springs after valance bumper & winch. Running 2" ICON rear coils, sits level.

I bet the 46mm diameter upped to 60mm 6112 will be a nice ride!
Do you guys know if most people stay at stock 0" spring seat groove on 6112's when running longer aftermarket springs, especially heavy's? I've heard clicking up 5100's when you already have 2-3" lift springs will give most ppl a harsh ride, sometimes even damaging from topping out

I believe it's recommended to use the 0 lift groove when using lift springs for the exact reason you mentioned. It makes sense to me.

Ya man, thanks for the feedback. The 6112 got even more circlips than the 5100, like at least 6.
Last thing I'll ask about my setup is does anyone foresee any travel problems running 5100's lowest circlips and upgrading from OME 2884 stock load 3" lift springs, to 1/2" longer 2887 heavy load 3" lift springs? (4 piece steel skid kit, recovery points, nerf steps, future valance bumper and winch, etc.)
    Cheers

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback! I’d like to direct you Toyota guys to an interesting site, CHITOWN4x4.com, Tech Center Articles-Why We Don’t Like Cheap Lift Kits. This shop is pretty exclusive Chicagoland Toyota shop, and seem to know a lot about lift kits, what work and don’t! They feel the 5100, though a great minimum suspension lift, has its limits. A worthy read.

So right now, I have the front 5100’s set at 1.75”, with OME coil. That was before adding SSO bumper, winch, sliders and RTT (see original post at top) so if I go with 6112 and medium weight coil, I’m thinking notch 1 or 2, 1.7 to 2” lift.
