Although Snake oil seems to be a hot item right now. Lots of people buy anything they're selling these days.

Anyone have trouble accessing the air filter with trd cold air intake? The design of the air box makes it hard to take the filter out and change without some disassembly.

Tangent opinion: I've built and rebuilt a lot of motors over the years. I've worked on everything from shitboxes to drag strip vehicles. From '30s motorcycles to mass market cars.

The 4Runner has a VERY WELL DESIGNED stock airbox.

Enough volume to not be restrictive. Accessible enough to give no excuses for not maintaining. Form factor accepts a very high quality commonly available filter. Filter has high surface area. Air flow is routed straight to intake without circuitous bends and elbows.

Shup! Don't say that So loud! it can take away the MIP (money in Pocket) for me,

I have Installed a good number of the Toyota Ones for those who want that Little Extra benefits that the Toyota CAI has to Offer Like can you open your hood and Say "See? TRD!" ? or have that little extra powerful sound from that mighty Toyota 6 banger when you push that gas pedal to the metal? or that Smiles Per Miles knowing that you have one awesome cool looking air intake on Your Toyota? and it has a actual working filter indicator (that nobody ever looks at) that will tell you that the filter is dirty?

To me there is really nothing wrong with the Toyota CAI it fits right in with all the other mods that people do to their Rigs that make them feel good about it and actually better than some that I seen done that really are snake oil and are totally useless.

Turns out the AEM filter rubber perimeter is a little too tall. The OEM filter fits great. Access is fine now. The clips on the original oem air box are much nicer than the design of the TRD. OEM has 4 opposed to TRD that has 2 clips and 2 “hinges”.

That being said very happy with the TRD intake. Sounds better, butt dyno is amazing (better acceleration), and smiles per miles increased.

I can confirm it fits the 2023 TRD Pro.

Don’t have any hard numbers. Butt Dyno says there’s a little more torque down low, and a little throatier sound above 4000rpm. Less noise from the engine bay during average driving, which means the exhaust noise is a little more apparent. Not louder, just more noticeable.

Mainly did it as it seems like a part that should’ve been there in the first place in the Pro, and removing the OEM intake pipe opens a significant amount of space in the engine bay by elimination of the stock resonators (big kidney things hanging off the back of the pipe). Plenty of space for on board air, with the box farther forward, and the tuners on the pipe removed.

Took me an hour and a half. Chalk that out to doing it at night, and being especially particular on how I re-wrapped the wiring harness and routed what was left.

Would I do it again? On a Pro, yes. But I also believe much like the Pro’s Fox suspension, you can probably do more for potentially less $$$ in the aftermarket using other brands, and building it out yourself with hand picked kit.

    To each their own.

As long as your expectations are realistic it's your money. Will it improve performance? Not enough to make any difference, will it improve sound? That's just a subjective thing. Will it look cooler? Again just semantics. Not worth the money in my opinion

I e researched the hell out of this and any increases are marginal at best. I wouldn’t buy it. I think the kit is around 500. I’ll put that 500 towards something better

I just put it on my 23 pro. pieced together the parts so it cost ~ $200 with some holiday discounts. I bet that any perceived performance gains are just your ears tricking you but I like the sound and it’s a cheap way to dress up the engine bay a bit.

Not sure why folks think it’s loud, I can’t even hear it cruising, but under hard throttle it does make the engine sound less like a vacuum cleaner ;). (Now the TRD exhaust.. that WAS annoyingly loud and I’m glad it’s gone.)

Install is extremely easy, I read the guide online but really anyone who is even a little bit mechanically inclined could figure it out just looking at the parts. Re-wrapping the wires wasn’t bad either, you can just unwind all the tape with very little cutting and then just wrap the new lead in a short length of 1/4 wire loom. It took me maybe 45 minutes working a slow.

Toyota of Melbourne has done a good job in the past for dozens of orders, and they're running the FREESHIP code on orders over $75.
The link I posted has the TRD cover listed.

Here are the part numbers and relative prices from years ago. Looks like they've gone up but not much:

-(TRD Air Filter Lid Replacement w/clips) TRD INTK FLTE LIDR PTR03-35090-AA $80.93
(TRD Lower Air Box Replacement w/clips) TRD INTK LWDAIRBXREP PTR03-35090-AF $63.35
(TRD Replacement Intake Flow Accelerator for CAI) TRD INTK FLW ACC PTR03-35090-AC $6.88
(TRD Replacement Intake Air Tube for CAI) TRD INK AIR TUBE RPL PTR03-89100-AA $29.69
(TRD REPLACEMENT coupler & clamp hardware kit for CAI) TRD INTK HRDWRE REP PTR03-89100-AB $35.42
(TRD, Air Flow Monitor, Cold Air Int) TRD GAGE INT TUN PTR03-34071 $19.50

It will not come with an oiled TRD Air Filter. Your stock air filter fits without issue. (Personally, I preferred not to run an oiled filter. YMMV)
It will not come with 15" of wire loom....cheap at auto parts store!
It will not come with 20" of 5/32 or 1/8" vacuum hose, also cheap at auto parts store!
It will not come with zip ties...IIRC, also cheap at auto parts store!
As described in this thread, a little O2 safe Silicone, and a small plug to seal a hole on the side of the air box and to seal a hole next to a mounting grommet on bottom of air box.
Silicone spray to facilitate inserting the tube into the couplers and you have just saved yourself $150.00

Have fun and let the ridicule begin....

I still have to add the disclaimer: The part numbers provided above will in no way improve performance or gas mileage.
    Maybe in an alternate reality.....
But I can attest that it will work with a Safari Snorkel.

That depends on the person's income ratio if the $6995 for the super charger Plus installation about $1200 to have a engine with 335Hp being worth it or not, I personally loved the way it takes off and Pass on the freeway but I would not do it to mine because there is no damn way I would be able to keep my foot off the pedal to the Metal. I do have a Supercharged 4 banger car and that is quick as hell.

That's fine Turbos have their place and a trade off too... I don't see doubling the HP with one since they potentially add 70 to 150 HP depending on the base HP of the Engine and the other critical components added.

To me I am Not going to put down anyone who wants to Supercharge, Turbo or just add a TRD Cold Air Intake in any form or any way because I do weekend work with someone else on Toyota stuff and if that is what they want I am fine with it... if they want Raptor lights so be it, and if Re-Gearing is want they want and you would be surprised how scared of doing that so many are So If they want Ditch Lights that they will never will use yay None of it is dumb to me because if that is the Route the owner wants to go the rig belongs to them not me I just will not do something that will result in damage.
