Do what you want, you will anyway! Just kiddin'. We had a Off Road Tacoma(2017) and went to a ORP 4Runner, my wife likes that the things that we put in for cargo are under the same roof as we are, climate controlled etc. Go for it!

You don’t like the Taco? I toy with idea of getting one of those (and keeping my ORP)

It seems like a fun truck to drive around town in but I have never owned a truck. I would sell my accord to get one so I am sure a huge change

You can do whatever you want, but remember, you're going to take a financial beating. Sure, they're probably offering you top dollar for your Tacoma, but wait till you see what they ask for the 4Runner.

    BTW, I went from a 2014 TRD Sport Tacoma to a 2021 4Runner SR5 Premium. I really do like the T4R!

As long as you don't regularly need the bed of the Tacoma and you can afford to upgrade, I would go for the 4Runner.

I traded in a paid off 2015 Tacoma SR5 that had zero issues and treated me well for a 4Runner and have had no regrets.

I had a buddy do this after college and the economy was good.

Got a new Camaro keep a year, trade in on a Vette, keep a year you get the ideas. Each time kept rolling over loans into another one and suddenly all kinds of debt. He still gets his new cars but leases. He pissed away so much money it’s unreal. He will be working for ever

Welcome. @WarTurtle357 is right, it's going to depend on if you need a bed or not. I traded my 2017 Taco for my T4R since the bed was past the time of being needed.

Ask yourself why you own a Tacoma. Does it do what you want it to do? When you have the answers, but a Corvette.

I think I can count on one finger hearing about a person who traded their 3rd gen Tacoma for a 4Runner and was sorry they did.

I came from a 2016 Taco to a 202 ORP and I love the 4Runner. I do miss just being able to toss things in the bed. I am much more careful with the 4R when I need to haul something. The 4R is much more comfortable and the back seat has more room.

In reality if you do not need a bed that often, you can always rent a home depot utility trailer for the occasional times.

Do you use the bed? I drove a Taco for 9 years before trading up to the 4R. I love it, and the reality is that I only hauled stuff that absolutely NEEDED the open bed a couple times a year.

If you need to use a pickup for real pickup jobs on a regular basis, or need the slightly higher tow rating; then keep it. If you just want an offroad toy get the 4R. Just remember that even with sky high resale values, trading after 12 months is going to hurt with all the doc fees etc. If you state doesn't offer a trade in sales tax offset thats another consideration.

I have a 1st gen Tacoma, and it doesn't compare in the least with my 4R. Good truck, yes, but by no stretch of the imagination better.

I have the best of both worlds - well almost! I removed the rear seats of the 4R in September for a sleep-in road trip for 20 days and I have no intention of putting them back in anytime soon - much to my wife's chagrin! We removed the 3rd row in our beater 2002 Suburban years ago and keep the middle row down - best pick up truck ever! A ton of secure storage space.

We had a '21 Tacoma Trail 4x4 (with the dumb bed coolers). Once I got into off roading/camping, traded it for a '22 TRD ORP and haven't looked back. The Tacomas a great trucks, we just like the 4Runner a lot more. It's something you can sleep in, go off roading, but also take out for a nice dinner (though it is certainly not fancy). Very happy with it. Financially, we timed it and made a killing on the Taco and the 4R, but that was end of Dec 2021 and I was a used car salesman in a prior life and love that game.

    Do what makes you happy!!!

I agree with you. I traded a 2014 FJ Cruiser 4WD with 80K miles and zero issues in on my 2023 4Runner Premium with XP package. My dealer was writing a deal on the FJ Cruiser as I was leaving in my new '23 4Runner. I did strike a good deal with him on my purchase (re: no dealer market adjustment fees, non of those unneeded dealer add-ons). So I paid straight MSRP and got $35K for the FJ Cruiser.
I have always said...if both parties think they got the short end of the stick, it was a good deal for both.

Any idea what packages it has or the site show that? As an example -
    upload_2022-12-2_14-36-59.jpg

    Edit -

Here's a pic of packages available to a TRD ORP -
If you can get that Multi terrain monitor system it would be a killer deal imo.
    upload_2022-12-2_14-42-5.jpg

The example I posted has that feature-

I did this swap and for the same reason. I have kids and carry a lot of gear for work.

One thing you will notice is just how heavy the ORP 4runner feels compared to the Tacoma sport (heavier truck to start and 4WD) I noticed it instantly. I would personally suggest getting the KDSS to mitigate the heavy feeling in turns. My truck is 99.9% on road though, so it’s beneficial for me.

Also, while the Tacoma isn’t exactly fast, the 4runner is a dog. Like bad.

Go for a long test drive. I loved my tacoma, but I couldn’t imagine going back to one after having the 4runner.

Good luck in your search! Looking forward to the pics!

If I be honest I don't like following opinions-

TRD Pro wheels- They are a narrower wheel (17x7). Visually an upgrade and functionally might be a downgrade from a wider stock TRD Offroad wheel (17x7.5)

Predator tube step - again functionally may not be the best choice. A factory running board might be much more functional option and also add little protection to side of the body from the rock chips ejected from the tires.

That dual port USB is no big deal even if you get one without it as Amazon has flush type USB fast chargers you can plug into regular circular 12v outlet for lot less money.

OEM all weather mats are good looking but functionally aftermarket mats like Husky are much better option. Also other options like weather tech, lasfit, etc.(i don't have personal experience)

For my money I would look for a TRD Offroad with that multi terrain monitor.

Just sharing my opinion as I love someone getting a better 4runner and have a good experience.

Back seat space is much better than the taco. Not sure about the 3rd gen tacos, but my 2nd gen was a harsh and bumpy ride even though it was stock. The 4Runner is much more comfortable and my doggo thanks me for it.
