Op, what's keeping you in the LC, then? Sounds like the Sequoia is the ride you prefer over that. Maybe keep the Sequoia, get rid of the LC and pick up the 4R..

More of an emotional connection to the LC. The Sequoia is a more practical family SUV though.

I get that emotional connection for sure. I am the same way with a few cars I owned. Many are more loyal than women I have met.

The deal is done. It felt bittersweet driving the Sequoia to the dealer knowing it would be the last drive with it. But driving the 4Runner home I had a big smile on my face.

The trade went smoothly. I’m still surprised they gave me $72K for a used Sequoia, especially since the used car market is tanking right now. But who am I to object. I took the money and ran.

Here’s a pic of the new rig. I asked the dealer not to drill holes for the front license plate, so that note stuck to the front says “Don’t drill.” Not sure how I feel about the hood protector, but it was port installed so I guess I’ll leave it for now.

Only a 20 mile drive home, but my first impressions are very positive. I’ll post some better pics later.

Thanks again for all the advice and feedback here.

Congrats! I had mixed feelings about my hood protector but now really like having it. Though I have a Limited, so it's a diff vibe to begin with.

    Congratz..!! Nice 4R.

I have aftermarket AVS bug deflector. I don't have a problem with it. It seems to deflect the bugs (somewhat) and snow. My 4R is Magnetic gray so bug deflector kinda match.

    My bit of advice as the first thing to do with TRD Pro is;

    1) move the top crossbars to bottom row to reduce the wind noise a little.
    2) Buy a matching tire for the spare (spare tire has a non matching tire)
2a) Or if you plan to drive in winter conditions its an opportunity to buy 5 better tires like A/Ts with 3peak mountain snow flake rating (Falken Wildpeak AT3W / BFG KO2 / GY wrangler Duratrac / Toyo OC AT3 / etc..)

With 2023 you have heated steering as well right? That is a small yet very useful feature. Even the turn indicators on side mirrors is a nice feature to give little bit more visibility to others when turning.

Down the line you might consider to change those predator steps to something else. I personally like even a full running board as I take lot of dirt roads and listening to rocks hitting is hard. I think a running board gives little bit of help with that, or even better some relatively light weight hrew sliders.

Thanks! You’re welcome to come check it out. The truck will be living in Jersey for a month or so. I’m looking for a new parking garage since my current one keeps jacking up the rate to the point where it’s just gotten absurd.

It does have a heated steering wheel. Even the Sequoia didn’t have that feature.

Crazy that an off-road rig like this doesn’t have a matching spare. Is the spare at least the same size as the other four?

Yeah I might look into real running boards at some point once I actually start taking it off road.

Very nice 4R! Just drive it for a while, it doesn’t need anything. Except maybe a black hood bulge decal for the glare…;)

Quick update after driving the 4R about 100 miles total.

As expected, I miss the space and power of the Sequoia. But the 4R is still comfortable and has adequate power. Two car seats in the second row (one rear facing and one forward facing) is doable, but not nearly as comfortable as the Sequoia. I’m still getting used to the smaller size, but hopefully I’ll adjust.

I’m 6’1” and in the Sequoia I was able to slide the drivers seat all the way back and still have plenty of room for a forward facing car seat behind me. In the 4R I can’t do that, so it does feel a bit tight by comparison.

In the looks department, the 4R is very sharp especially in Solar Octane.

The 4R drives surprisingly well on the highway, even cruising at 75 mph. The TRD Pro exhaust doesn’t bother me at all. The Pro exhaust on the Sequoia seemed much louder by comparison.

Bottom line is I think I made the right choice to switch to the 4R. Part of me regrets letting go of the Sequoia, but the 4R is probably the more practical choice for my lifestyle at the moment. Overall they’re both great vehicles and it’s hard to say which one is better.

By the way, the dealer I traded the Sequoia to has it listed for sale at nearly $79K. Can’t imagine who would pay that, but it only takes one buyer. Here it is…

I love that color, I’m green with envy.

We have a 12’ Sequoia in addition to the the 4R. Although our Sequoia has more room and power, the 4Runner has a much better ride.

    Enjoy:)

Maybe they have standing order in place for the Sequoia. Gas consumption is high. My friend was always complaining about gas.

If they had a standing order for the Sequoia, would they still list it for sale on their website? I'd be shocked if someone paid that much for it, but who knows anything is possible.

    You are right. Strange.
Maybe they made enough on the new vehicle sale to offset trade-in loss.
Its normally the other way round.

Hey! I just bought a 23 solar octane trd pro. Traded in my 22 sr5 premium. My only
Complaint is all the cameras look like trash. Grainy. Wavy. Looks like it’s being shot with a potato. Are you having these issues?! Dealer says it’s just the way it is. And I’m not too happy for that 65k price tag!

Damn! $65K for a new Pro. I thought the prices were starting to soften - guess not. I paid $54K for a Lunar Rock Pro in 05/21. Enjoy the new 4R!
