JFC... this is along the same lines to me as an ER visit. I show up with a legitimate issue needing immediate attention and I'm behind of a line of morons that burned their tongue on hot soup. This kind of shit is why court cases are scheduled years out. I'm part of a case that started in 2021... won't be seen by a judge until 2023.

And if my life has been reduced to something so completely unimportant as 60 additional seconds on mac and cheese, I would need to take a good long look at myself and my life.

If she was really trying to save money, she would buy the boxed mac and cheese, make it the night before, then nuke it for under 3 and 1/2 minutes and eat.

We quickly blame the attorneys, but isn't the blame on the moron that dreamed up the lawsuit in the first place? I am a believer in the "law of unintended consequences". Let's just say during discovery that the defense attorneys find out the "lady's" microwave isn't putting out the wattage required to cook her magic meal in three and a half minutes. Who looks stupid now?

Let's consider the woman in the McDonalds drive through that spilled her coffee and burned her skin on her legs? Shouldn't common sense dictate that one be careful with a hot cup of coffee? And how many people have since spilled hot coffee on themselves while trying to read the ridiculous warning "Caution: contents may be hot"? No shit! Morons!!

Attorneys will always be happy to take your money as well as a whole bunch of everyone else's even when the attorney knows this person is an absolute moron. We are blaming the wrong person.

I don't blame the lawyers. That would be like blaming tire manufacturers for making low profile mud tires. If some dipshit wants it, might as well take their money.

I want to agree with you, but after reading the article, this lawyer has a history of going after food corporations as a living. So, I have to blame both.

WE are overloaded with attorneys and so many have to resort to "ambulance chasing". The court system is a self-creating monster that, like California real estate, is a growth industry that, once it stops growing, will die a miserable death.

Agreed... There are some attorneys that are actively recruiting stupid people, like Paul mentioned before, burning their tongues on hot soup. Too much social media making people unable to think anymore. Ridiculous. I mean jeez, if i slip in a supermarket on something, I'm getting up quickly and looking around, making sure NO ONE saw that... Some people just have no shame.

    Cheers,

    Sean

The Lawyer who is making everything around us more expensive with the frivolous lawsuits even if the company "wins" against the lawsuit it still cost them lots of $$ that they will pass down to us consumers and the woman who upset that it takes a tad more than 3.5 Minutes to make that crappy assed Mac -n- cheese she needs to get a life and do something beside pack her big ole pie hole with Mac -n- cheese.... oh no now I did it:crapstorm:

This thread has caused me pain and anguish, which has deprived my wife via loss of consortium. So she’s suing — lawyer up everyone

I read an article just in the past few weeks about two dudes who are suing a movie studio because the movie trailer featured an actress who wasn't in the movie. Her scene got cut, but there was still a glimmer of the scene in the trailer. These two shitsmears saw the movie based on her being in the trailer and were disappointed that she wasn't in the film so they are suing the studio... False advertising IIRC.

Too lazy to look for a link.

Agree with the part about how idiotically litigious society can be, but isn't that the reason lawyers get the bad reputation? If all lawyers laughed the idiots out the door (and charged for their time) then it would probably stop.

But then again, lawyers have to pay bills too so can't really blame them for taking the case (especially if they win).

Maybe the real problem is the judge and/or jury who decides "yeah, you're a fucking idiot but you still deserve compensation for your moronic decision".

If the cases didn't pay out they would die out quickly.

Actually if the judges are doing their job, they are interpreting the law, therefore, I have to say it’s the laws that need to be changed.

True. So is the real blame to be placed on those who write laws to award stupidity?

About 10-15 years ago I saw a documentary that contained the story of the woman who sued McDonald’s over the hot coffee incident. I don’t recall the name of the documentary or remember anything else about it as I write this but that woman was scalded badly!
Prior to knowing anything about that case I viewed it as some pathetic, dumb broad looking to make a quick buck off of her own stupidity. “Of course coffee is hot and you should be careful when they hand you the coffee through the window!” The documentary revealed the McDonald’s in general, and that one in particular, had a history of way overheating their coffee. The woman had 3rd degree burns on her hands and inner thighs and needed skin graphs.
None of that it is to say the Mac and cheese suit is legit, but we need to know both sides of the story before we turn our outrage dial up to 11.
    Edit
I found the story on wiki

    How is 180-190° "defective"?

Coffee is brewed at like 200°. Maybe they can keep the warming burners lower, but fresh coffee is going to be HOT.

Putting a hot cup of coffee between your legs in a car and removing the cover is dumb, no matter how you look at it. I can't believe they found McDonald's 80% responsible. Or, was there a legal standard requiring coffee to be served at a specific temperature? I didn't notice that in the article.
