4x4 driving question.

Hey guys. So my name is Quentin from canada. I just bought a 2011 4runner. I switch to 4x4 for the first time 2 days ago and I have some issues. When I take a slow turn to the right or the left the truck slow down to a stop unless I stay on the gas almost sa if I was on the break.
The truck came with 20" wheels instead of 17 and larger tyres. Could that be the reason?
The dealership where I bought it told me it was normal ......
Sorry about my poor English. I'm French and it's not always that easy to explain a situation.

You should not drive in 4wheel drive on the street. The owners manual explains the limitations when using 4wd. Also, there are warnings on the drivers visor you should review and follow

 

It’s normal but it doesn’t mean it’s good. Only the limited can be a full time 4wd.
On dry pavement, you want to stay in 2WD for all other trims

utilise 4 roues motrices seulement sur des surfaces glissantes comme de la neige, de la boue, du sable, etc…

Ne le fais pas sur une route normale à sec.
s’il pleut beaucoup, ça peut aller tant que tu restes plus ou moins en ligne droite sans faire de tournants trop serrés

 

Welcome from Wisconsin! 2WD for the street, dry pavement, wet but not icy pavement, normal driving with good traction. 4WD on slippery conditions, icy pavement, snow covered conditions and where traction is poor, also when in 4WD limit speed, this can be addressed in the owner's manual. So guys now that I know about awd conditions I ve an other question:
Wich bullbars would you put on a 2011 sr5?
Bolt on of course.

 

If it’s slippery you can use 4hi fairly fast. Just make sure you’re below 50mph (80km/h) when you activate it but after that you can go faster (not that you should go super fast if conditions are bad anyways)

If you’re in 4lo then you want to go quite slow (think crawl mode). And to activate 4lo make sure you’re stopped and put the car in neutral beforehand.

 

I've done the same mistake. Driven the entire highway in 4H. I noticed only when I took a turn to a local road feeling some hesitation. Then I switch back to 2wd. I think newer 4runner with smaller green 4wd indicators along with similar green headlight and fog light indicators doesn't give much attention. Older 4runner 4wd indicator gives little more attention. I don't feel anything wrong on mine, serviced twice after that and did not get any complaints from the techs. May be since the axles are not locked its not that big of a deal unless anyone ignore the hesitation and keep taking tight turns.
