    Hi

Quick question. With fog lights are you supposed to keep your headlights on when driving it rain or snow. I’m replacing my OEM fog lights with Diode Dynamic yellow fog lights. I didn’t know if in rain snow you kept the headlights on. Thank you

Don't believe the fogs come on unless the headlights do. One of the many nanny state things on my delete list.

I have the DD SS3 Pro’s on my 2021 OR and if you wire them into the factory fog light harness with the DD supplied harness, they will only work when low beams are on just like factory fogs. I have mine wired this way. Many states require you to have headlights on when it’s raining so it makes sense for them to work this way from the factory.

if you want them to work independent of the headlights, you certainly could wire them to run off a separate switch.

    Cheers,
    Bob

Like mentioned, fog lights are powered off the headlights low beams. You can run a separate wire to power them independently. But to answer the question, its not a good safety idea to run just fogs in serious conditions.

Fog lights are there to fill light gaps closer to the road, not for main vision.

I'll second (or third) this but add one more detail. The thing you really want to avoid is running your fogs and your high beams at the same time. This isn't much of a problem if your truck is stock because your fogs (if activated) will shut off when you switch from low to high beams anyway. The rationale is that your fogs are for short distance / peripheral vision and your high beams are for long distance vision. If you were to re-wire things so you could run both at the same time, your pupils would react to the intense foreground light and constrict, thus limiting your distance vision - which would be bad.

Trust me, if you swapped your OEM fogs for DD SS3's - no matter which model - between them and your low beams, you'll be just fine. Just make sure to aim them properly.
