Has anyone who has the Toyo Open Country ATIII been disappointed with their traction, especially in wet and winter conditions? Any issues with losing traction on wet pavement? Local store ordered a set in for me and I’m going to check them out tomorrow. Looking for any final feedback before I go so I can pull the trigger if I like them in person. I was also considering the Falken Wildpeak AT3W for reference.

I would suggest reading past comments on switching to aggressive tires.
Shimmies and intolerance. T4R seems very sensitive.
Am staying with stock. Then Winter tires when applicable.

    Not everyone had issues.

I have a bit of experience with the AT3’s and wet weather driving, but no snow. I just went through 2 hurricanes here on the east coast of central Florida, Ian and Nicole. I’ve got about 8-9k miles on them since install and I can say these tires excel in wet weather driving. Stock size, SL load.

On top of those 2 storms, it rains here a lot. I have no reservations driving at speed on wet roads, mostly interstate driving as I have an 80 mile round trip to and from work. The only tires that I’ve had that may be better are Michelin Defender LTX but that’s a different category of tire. I’d say the Toyo’s are very good to excellent driving on wet roads. I hope this helps. By the way, no shimmy or vibration but every vehicle seems to be different in that respect.

I had them on our GX a couple of years ago and they were fantastic in almost everything. While we had limited snow here in TN, I took the GX out when there was about 3 inches of snow on the road and it was about 25 degrees out. They did great, no slipping or sliding at all. They performed well at OBX as well.

I appreciate the reply. I’m in KY and we might get 6 or 8” of snow or none at all. I’m glad to hear the vote of confidence.

I think that’s all I needed to hear. I know we don’t get as much rain as you do in FL. If you can drive confidently in the rain on the interstate down there I think they would do just fine here in KY. As far as vibration, I’ve never had any with other AT tires they couldn’t road force out or to something manageable, but it’s also the only type of tires I’ve ever run so maybe I’m just used to it.

My AT3s did great in the snow and do just fine in the rain, especially in the Seattle area.

I had them installed in February. I've only had rain since, and they've been great. I'm confident they'll be just fine once the snow comes around.

Mine are LT(C) and still pretty good in snow. I think you'll be happy with them.

The fiance bought a set for his Outback just a couple weeks ago. They look like a great tire and pretty rugged!

I thought I was getting mine installed today, but they ordered the wrong size. They ordered 16” instead of 17”. I’ll try again Tuesday.

Falken is all I run on the 4Runners i’ve owned (2007, 2011 & 2022). Love them and no issues.

when my wifes General Altimax wear out on her 2016 Mazda CX5, shes getting Falken WP AT3s.

We put Toyo AT3's on our 2013 Honda Pilot last year for my son to have at Montana State University in Bozeman and he raved about the Pilot's performance in the snow (a lot of snow). This the tire I am leaning to put on my 4R when the original stock Nitto's wear out. I currently have 31,000 miles on my 4R in 18 months.

2013 Honda Pilot is fulltime AWD. Proven even without snow tires in deep snow.
    Used it for 10years.
    Very steady for highway driving.
Money pit. Vibrating engine to save gas.

I have the E rated AT III's, and have ZERO issues with wet weather driving in Houston. Our roads tend to get a little slick the minute it starts raining, and haven't had one complaint. I also recommend them.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Got them on my runner in 285/70/17's. No shimmy, no issues with drivability. I live in northern Utah so we see plenty of snow and so far no complaints. If I remember correctly they're one of the few "hybrids" that are snow rated (I know it's considered an AT but it's a pretty aggressive AT). I had a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers and they SUCK in the snow/ice. I'd avoid those if you live in snowy/icy areas of the country.

They did not. I helped pull out a Shelby mustang and more from being stuck.

I just got back from a road trip from Texas to Colorado on Monday. I hit all kinds of snow going up the mountains, never had an issue. I didn't even have to put it in 4WD until I hit an inclined road from a stop.

One of the reasons I went with the Toyo is because the wet traction was so much better, especially compared to the BFG's. Falcon Wildpeaks were my 2nd choice but I would recommend the Toyos to anyone who would listen.

Finally got the tires out on. I only have a few miles on them, but my initial thoughts are that they ride much better than the Pirelli Scorpion tires that were on it. Traction is noticeably better, but the Pirelli was down to 7/32 so that might be the reason. Also, they are much quieter than the stock Bridgestone tires on our 2021 TRD Off-Road. Road noise is very minimal and I believe less than what my Falken Wildpeaks make on my Tundra.
