Had a 17 TRDOR Tacoma. Just got the 19 4runner nightshade limited edition. By far the best decision I've made switching. Man its night and day difference. I just love this thing. I test drove the 19 Tacoma and then the 4runner got out of the parking lot and was sold on the 4runner. 3 issues I have with it. No power liftgate. The rear camera doesn't have the grid lines that predict where you are going to go. Turn with the steering wheel. the cruise control stick doesn't illuminate with the lights. My wife's 16 rav4 XLE has all 3.20190202_161119.jpg 20190202_161111.jpg

    working on it
I had a 2019 Tacoma for 3 days. I unwound the deal at the dealership and They got me into a new 2018 4Runner TRD off-road premium. I couldn't drive the Tacoma without it KILLING my back. 20 miles one way to work and I couldn't hardly walk. When I had the Tacoma, I google searched "Toyota Tacoma Uncomfortable seats", I was amazed at how much info there is on that subject. They even talked about how bad the seats are in the Tacoma on the podcast called The Smoking Tire. I am sooooo glad I made the switch to the 4runner. My back thanks me every time I drive it. I owned a Gen 3 4runner before I got the Tacoma. I put 240,000 trouble free miles on it starting back in 2006. I spent hours and hours behind the wheel of that 4runner and my back never hurt. I am glad I have the TRD off road 4runner. It's a blank slate now so let the customizing begin.

The Taco does have more options than my current 4Runner (dimming mirror, keyless ignition, bigger nav screen and a nav display by the gauges, more towing, bed, and a few more), but the 4.0/5speed just feels better than the 3.5! The back seat is leaps and bounds better. The driver’s seat has actual adjustments. It just feels better and suits our needs more. We’re gonna see how she feels when we get a rack on the roof with our CVT Mt Rainier RTT, but I can tell you for sure the Taco sagged and hunted for gears with that 200 pounds added. So....pretty happy so far.

Had a 2015 Taco TRD Sport and it was a fine truck. Nothing to rave about but solid, nice looking, and a workhorse. Found a 4Runner Limited with a price I simply could not pass up and traded up. The 4R is a brick house! It is big, heavy, and just lumbers along but it is quiet ride and smooth as silk on the highway. You can definitely feel the difference in build quality compared to the Taco. No contest. The only negative about the 4Runner to me in how much it catches that crosswind...got keep both hands on the wheel during those times! Now I just need to get a small trailer when I need to haul larger items.

Did the opposite like others. Went from a 2017 Tacoma OR to a 2019 4R OR. IMO the 4R is a superior vehicle despite its old school approach. Only thing I miss is the push button start, but will get over it.

I went from a 2006 Tacoma sport with 80k on it to a new 2018 4Runner SR5 premium and couldn’t be happier, I looked at new tacos but just didn’t care for the looks of the front end.. plus I needed to be able to haul two kids the wife and luggage, she has a highlander and loves it only downfall is no bed but I really never used it unless I needed mulch and whatnot..

    I went from a 2003 4runner to a 2015 Tacoma, and back to a 2019 4runner.

Really depends whether you want a kickass midsize pickup, or a kickass midsize SUV:)

That mod makes me nervous. In the event of a high speed impact, this one little mod essentially throws a wrench into the crash testing data statistics.

I know, some would laugh at me and tell me I worry too much. But bolt shear mechanics, thread tension, a lot of things at play there. Then someone else ends up with the vehicle 15 years down the line and has no idea the seat has been moded. Can of worms imo.

Went from a 15 Tacoma Sport (wish I kept) to an 18 Tacoma ORP…had all the bells and whistles and was a 6-speed manual…now in a 18 4R ORP and find it superior in literally every conceivable way.

I’m may switch to a Tacoma if the shop can’t fix a bumper on my 4R. Been looking at 01-04 pretty affordable. Nice open bed for hauling. Going with the 4 cylinder.

We have a 17 Tacoma TRD offroad 6spd manual 4x4. It is a rocking awesome little truck. 2019 SR5 4x4 4 runner as well. I like them both.

I tried to buy a 2023 Tacoma last week. With rising interest rates and used values plummeting, it just wasn't worth the huge increase in payments.

Toyota dealers are already snobbish and dismissive and unwilling to deal. These days, it is ridiculous.

I went on a Tacoma forum, and most of them told me to keep the 4Runner since it is better built, has the better motor and transmission, and is more capable off-road. I just wanted a new vehicle with a pickup bed. So, I'll keep the 4Runner for a while longer and see what happens with the economy next year.

Don't blame me, I voted for Trump.
I had a 2019 Tacoma V6....piece of crap. Motor and trans combo junk........went through 3 radiators for some reason in 25,000 miles. Note: I have owned nothing but small Toyota pick-ups since early 90's great vehicle, latest gen is crap. I traded in the thing on a 2021 4Runner best trade I ever made...................hopefully Toyota will not screw up the next gen 4Runner like they did to the Tacoma.

Went from 4runner SRP to Taco TRD Sport and am now back at T4R. Tacos are great and fun but they’re just not 4Runners. I got a great deal on my taco to trade in for a TRD ORP and I’m in absolute love

I've got a 2017 TRD Pro 4R, and a 2019 TRD-OR Tacoma. Honestly I really like them both. I feel like the 4R has a bit more legroom, and rides a little better. They're both slow, and I don't even care. The Taco has adaptive cruise which is nice, but it's missing "leather", heated seats, and homelink. I'm planning on remedying that eventually.

Ya you have to research what is being built in Canada. Much better quality my Corolla S is awesome. Maybe they will build one there.

This cannot be understated. The Tacoma turned into a turd post-2015. If Toyota officially announces that 2024 is the year they’re refreshing the 4R, I expect a massive demand for 2023’s, I’ll definitely be snagging one before they switch to whatever monstrosity is in the way.

We went 4runner to Tacoma back to 4runner. The Tacoma isn't a bad vehicle, but if I were ever to get another truck it would be a full size. In my opinion, the 4runner is a vastly superior vehicle if you don't absolutely have to have a bed.

Went from a loaded19 Tacoma Off Road 6spd manual to a 4R Pro. Over the 3years of taco ownership kit kinda felt small when I had passengers. I kept one of the seats in the rear down constantly so I wasn't throwing random stuff on the seats.
Always had 4runner on my mind and decided to go check them out and was sold once I drove one. The 4R just fit the bill for my current situation and I couldn't be happier.

    I have both, 2016 Tacoma DCLB and a 2021 T4R SR5 Premium.

The T4R is a better daily driver as far as comfort and space but I love having the bed for the Taco.

The Taco on 285s gets better gas mileage than the T4R on stock tires.
