The back right window has an fm antenna. The previous owner removed the other antenna located on the right fender near the windshield. What was the purpose of this extending-retracting antenna?

If it was anything like mine, it really doesn't tighten well at all on the fender, I wander if there is an alternative something that is much better.
Maybe mine is missing something that prevents it from tightening down.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
My stripper has a fixed fender antenna.

People generally switch to fixed antenna. Mine stays up so no big deal.

Mine is fixed, but doesn't tighten down, like something is missing

Wasn't sure if mine is an aftermarket, fitted by the Previous Owner, but I was going to remove and relocate and fit a Shark Fin to the back of the Roof..

I wander why your antenna is on the left, and mine is on the right fender, come to think of it every car I ever had they have always been on right fender.
I have the same year 4Runner
