Good call. The one thing my tool doesn’t have is the 3/8” drive insert like yours. That’s my only complaint. Not a huge deal but I am forced to use my 1/2” drive with 24mm socket.

Im kind of surprised toyota sells those kind of filter wrenches. I thought the whole point of the design with the flute/tabs etc was to avoid the very possibility kf breaking it, because it’s distributing the force across a bunch if surface area. Not to mention the need for 24mm socket to use it.

I think I got mine at Napa. Has a ton of contact points around the bottom and makes use of the flutes. Slides on and off easily without any tendency to get stuck on it. Actully bought it for my Highlander, and happened to fit on the 4runner.

I'm a retired Auto Mechanic and after 30 yrs in a dealership I will not trust anybody but myself to do an oil change be that dealer or quick lube place. It's not just the mechanical aspect I've seen some excellent newbies come into the trade and butchers. My biggest issue is with the bulk oil that dealers and quick lube joints use. Most quick lube shops use the cheapest sub-standard oil filters available. They can say what they want but you have no idea what you're actually getting for oil or filters at a quick lube. If it's not out of a sealed bottle I doubt that you're getting what you paid for. At least at a dealer your most likely to get a quality filter even though it's questionable bulk oil. From experience.

This is the same one that I use & I've never had a problem.

Maybe we should get our friends here that do the Blackstone oil analysis to get a sample of new bulk oil at the dealership to see what they see.
