We were off-roading with my daughter and son-in-law in Vermont and went through a 1/2 mile section of some rocky terrain. The part pictured below, I am pretty certain is the fuel tank cover. It took a pretty good dent, and will likely get an aluminum armor replacement. Please verify that I have properly identified the part as the fuel tank cover.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

You might consider removing it, pounding out the dent, giving it a quick spray with a rattle can, and replacing it.

Thanks gents. I was pretty positive of what the part was, but really appreciate the confirmation.

This sounds like a good plan. You’d only be out a few $$ for a can of spray paint and some time.

It's not doing its job against bottoming out on rocks, also it is not a skid plate but rather thin mild steel fuel tank under-cover. Id consider that dent as a mild warning. If you plan to take your rig off road with rocks that reach way up there near gas tank - get proper after marked skid plate! Options on those are endless and far better than flimsy factory sheet metal cover. Aluminum is good option for light weight, durability and corrosion resistance but will gauge easily with similar to your scuffs on factory cover. If you decide to go with Al get at least 1/4 in thick plate. G.L.

KO2, RCI Skid and filler plate, Caliraised ditch lights, seat jacker clones, aluminum oil filter housing and fumoto drain.
For the off-roading you're doing, I'd go steel as apposed to aluminum, imho.
