installing a full length roof rack and removing the factory rails. The roof rack bolts directly to the existing factory holes but you can add two additional “anchors” in the front to increase the weight capacity.

would you add the additional bolts? I’m assuming you would have to drill into the roof. Any advice on how you would do that?

Or should I just stick with the existing factory mounting

there is no requirement to do the drilling but it does add 200 pounds of weight I could carry. Any advice would be great

I read somewhere that the actual roof capacity wasn’t that high. Drilling holes in the roof, yikes!

Not quite sure, based on your OP, whether you have already bought a rack or are considering options. If the latter, some of the full-length aftermarket roof racks do require an additional anchor point up front but do so without drilling through the roof.

Personally wouldn’t want a full rack without all the required anchors to hold it down.

If you haven’t yet bought one, then perhaps consider verifying exactly how the racks you are interested in handle the front installation and base your decision accordingly?

This concern is why I went with a “standard” length Victory rack. It sits on the existing pro rack footprint (behind the moonroof) and uses existing OEM rack bolt holes.

I have not bought it yet and have reached out to the manufacturer and they just replied. They give you everything you need if I’m going to drill the holes I’m gonna pass on that option. If I choose to do it maybe I’ll take it somewhere. I could just see my wife’s face as I’m drilling holes in the roof of a 2022. 32 years married. I know what cause “the look”

Yeah I don’t have the courage to do that. Maybe when I was 19 but I’m 52 now and had too many of those…….oh god no. Please don’t tell me I just…….

I went with the Sherpa full length, no drilling, but there are rubber feet on the front. No way would I drill in the roof, I had a hard enough time getting past taking off the factory rack and being worried I’d screw something up, also another reason I went with Sherpa, I really liked their replacement rubber for the factory spots.

Have you considered the wind noise it will make? I’m sticking with the factory rack for awhile. I’d get a no drill rack if I went that route. The rubber front feet post above sounds pretty clutch for your situation

And that right there is the reason you’ve crossed 32 with her. LOL

There are options other than drilling.

How does the roof rack manufacturer certify their weight capacity? Destructive testing? Is the rating for the rack only? Or the roof? Doubt any aftermarket manufacturer has the money to properly test their claims. Use your own judgement on the weight rating claims

Drilling cant be undone when you dont like the noises it makes and want to remove/change it.

Don't drill holes in the roof. Surely there are other options as far as roof racks are concerned. There are hundreds of aftermarket roof racks on here, do the 'search' in the upper right hand corner of the forum and check them out. Once the holes are drilled...... they're there! Besides, what's an additional 200#? Pack lighter!
