So we went bird-hunting in Michigan's Upper Peninsula earlier in October. Colors were gorgeous, and my '22 4R got nice and dirty. Not with any blood, BTW. We were mostly on gravel and 2-tracks, so not super challenging. But winter is coming on fast, and I'm not sure how my truck handles snow? Can I put it in 4-high and take off? Does it have to be snow-covered? Shift on the fly? Sorry, I know these are basic questions, but my dealer sales guy didn't know a lot when I picked it up. Any help apprecicated!

Welcome from the center of the bourbon universe.

How it handles snow will be somewhat dependent on the type of tire you're running, etc. Pull out the Owners Manual, it will give you information on how and when to use 4WD.

    Welcome

Yes, if your going to flip it into 4high while going 20/30 mph you need snow. Never do that on pavement. Best advice I give ppl for snow is don’t be so heavy on the gas pedal.

Lastly, what type of winter tires you going to use? Tires make a world of difference!

Welcome from Arizona!! Your dealer guy should look at an owner's manual and possibly learn about his product>

Runners do snow very well. Flip into 4-hi on the fly when you need it. Otherwise, rwd and traction control system works quite well

Yep, definitely check your owners manual.

I will say though 4WD is not to be used on dry pavement, and these are pretty sure-footed in the snow as long as you have good tires. Also, if you're from the UP, I'm sure you know how to drive in snow, so just carry over all those habits to your 4Runner.
