after the highly disappointing revelation that 2023 will not be new 6th generation I’m guessing now we can only hope for 2024 as next generation.

Let’s suppose a 6th Gen becomes available for purchase on dealership lots by end of 2023, how long before aftermarket upgrades usually become available? Specifically I would be interested in shocks like Fox or Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro.

is this something that would take 1-2 years to become available or more like 3-6 months.

Just debating buying a 2023 now with lots of upgrades available and holding out 3 years to trade it in for a next generation or keeping my current vehicle and having to wait 2-3 years before buying a 6th generation.

Buy a 5th gen. Put on the Ironman foam cells. Have a blast for 2-3 years, and see if the 6th gen still appeals to you. Guaranteed you'll fall in love with the 5th gen.

Based on the absolute debacle the new Tundra has been in it's first year I would not be too interested in being a first year guinea pig for the 6th gen. Toyota is not what it used to be.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
2 years ago our plan was to get a 2023 6th gen but after seeing the insane engine complexity of the new Tundra we went for the naturally aspirated port injected throttle body 5th gen.

I didn't realize there were issues with the new Tundra. Poor initial quality or what?

turbo wastegate, rear wheel bearings, door lock actuators, lower ground clearance etc. I’m sure others will chime in.
I love my 2017 2.5 gen Tundra. However, I’m about to put it up for sale since I recently retired & don’t need the bed, bulk or mpg’s.
I bought a 5th gen 4Runner last year & my wife will take delivery of the second one soon….hopefully these will hold up til death do us part.

Yeah the new tundra is definitely a covid truck. Designed, built, and parts sourced during the pandemic has led to an onslaught of issues for the third gen tundra

Depends on type of upgrade you're talking about. Some companies have stuff ready to go in 3-6 months. Others take longer.

I want the 6th gen too, but I think right now is probably the worst time to buy a new vehicle, from a financial standpoint. Just doesn't make sense given the huge markups. Willing to wait it out with my current vehicle and probably save 1000s down the road.

I actually think it's a great time to buy a vehicle because your trade-in is worth more than ever but the msrp's will remain consistent. Just don't pay markups

It probably doesn't matter because we're not going to see the 6th gen until 2024 anyway.

    This, too.

Someone else already listed many of the issues but just to add I'm also hearing reports of side view cameras literally falling off the mirrors and bad body alignment. This next detail may not be a big deal to some, but check out how shoddy the taped on A and B pillar trim looks if you get a chance to look at one closely. Looks like someone sloppily cut electrical tape with a utility knife and slapped it on there. The edges aren't even uniform. When I was at the dealership I couldn't even believe what I was seeing. Incredibly shoddy work and this is why I am not filled with confidence for the 6th gen 4runner, especially if they are no longer going to make it in Japan. Unless gas keeps going up I plan to pick up one of the last 5th gens sometime next year.

Boy, that's a bummer. Tundra seems like a big disappointment all the way around. Styling is kind of awkward, interior looks a little awkward, no tech that it's competitors haven't already offered for a few years now. I haven't seen the A pillar trim you mentioned, but just the fact that it exists in the first place is super cheesy.

Other than the fact that fan boys are going to fanboy, I can't see any reason to buy one of these over any of its competitors.

The fact that they've had over 10 years to perfect this thing gives me very little confidence that the sixth gen 4Runner is going to be anything special.

Agreed, and another small detail that bothers me; no tow hooks. That seems like a really strange thing to leave out on a truck.

That is huge to me, especially on the TRD models. Literally every video review I've watched of these trucks, the reviewer has mentioned this fact.

Such a contrast to GM and Ford, who for years have put beefy, easily accessible hooks on the front of their trucks. I think GM's been doing it since 1988, when the GMT400 trucks came out.

Even the Trailhawk models of the Jeep Compass and Patriot have legit front recovery points.

I just don't get what they were thinking. I think even the seats are smaller than the last gen. Certainly felt that way when I sat in one.

Each turbo has its own cooling system/water pump/radiator under each headlight completely separate from the engine cooling/radiator. Combined with all the exhaust/intake/intercooler plumbing it just looks really intimidating for a long term ride. The only vehicle I’ve seen that is a bigger bag of snakes is the new V6 Bronco.
Maybe the 6th gen with the turbo inline 4cyl might be better at not being a maintenance nightmare, in-line configurations are better(IMHO) than a vee for turbocharged applications because of simplified plumbing. My wife and I decided to jump on a 5th gen to play it safe.

Wow. Never realized the new Tundra was such a lemon

I remember in 2006 or 2007 I bought a new generation Camry and it definitely had some fit and finish problems along with inconsistent acceleration with pushing on accelerator.

Could not agree more . I was super disappointed swapping to a 5th gen 4Runner from a 3rd gen Tacoma. There is no amount of money that would get me to sell it now. The truck is golden. It has it’s quirks, but it is as close to perfect as you can get for an off-road vehicle.

I am the opposite, the only thing I miss about my Taco is the bed, and even that was too small, but I needed a Double Cab. I was reluctant to trade in my 17 taco, but other than having a payment, no regrets. Now, I do regret trading in my 09 SR5 access cab.

I think there was some speculation that it might get moved here due to sharing the TNGA platform with the Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia. I don't know if anything has been confirmed, though.

Just rumors for now. If it ends up getting built by the same folks who are slapping the Tundra's together, I'll be out.

Toyota making alot of changes. I heard rumors that you can't even get a land cruiser anymore? So if that's true the only other toyota(4x4) built there and shipped here is the 4runner.

Not really. The LX and GX are still sold here as well. And the GX is more similar to the 4Runner than anything else. It's literally a pimped out V8 4Runner.
