What are you using now? OEM IS often the best quality.

Are you bedding in the pads correctly? I'm guilty of not bedding in the pads and trying different pad/rotor combos because I thought they were warping too quickly.

From now on I just use OEM unless I pony up the money for a full big brake upgrade.

MY 2016 4runner SR5 bought it new, the runner BRAKE is a dive on the front end .... a week later I did the brake fluid to bleed the brakes .. the rear brakes are a lot of air in it ....
now today my brake pads are the same wear front rear.. I rotate my tires and I inspect every thing ..

I'm going to go on a limb and say your mechanic (assuming he does tire rotations as well) is using a impact to tighten the lug nuts and over tightening them.

I've never had a problem with rotors warping at 30k but I do everything my self.

When I get tires changed I re-torque my lug nuts because I know they use impacts on everything.

Many of the experts here and elsewhere have said that there are no major gains in going outside OEM on brakes. I really wanted to upgrade to the big boy brake system by powerbrake and just couldn't justify it. They look real nice and super well made, but performance wise is very hard to say they are superior than OEM. BUT....if you want to try something new and let us know....I am all ears and will consider it later too.

Brake bedding is when you deposit pad material onto the rotor. Usually it involves 3 30-0 stops, 3 60-15 hard braking sessions and a full cool down.

I’ve also heard that rotor pulsing can often be caused by uneven deposition of brake pad material onto the rotor. Not sure how that ends up happening, but net effect is you need to machine or replace the rotors.

Also, besides torque on lug nuts, I’m also picky about cleaning the surface of the wheels and rotor before torquing things down. That way there is even contact/ heat transfer between the two.

I did not tighten the lug nuts with the torque gun ...costco did the torque guns and they did a lot of damage... also the brake cleaner [ acetone ] spray the rims and the brakes on the drum/rotors.....

You were asking for brake upgrade because of rotors warping.

Over torquing rims can cause the rotors to warp.

Now does it happen on every vehicle? No.

You ever see those dumb ass use the impact then use the torque wrench. I've seen it tons of times.

For 99% of the people out there OEM is more than enough they just think its not.

How does tightening the lug nuts with a torque gun affects brake rotors? Just curious as I have been using torque gun at home for the past 21 years on many various cars with no issues.

If you go ham on them you can warp the rotors. Generally I don't use the torque gun for lug nuts anymore because my lug nuts did mushroom over time.

I will 100% guarantee you that no matter what your shop says, they do not bed in new brakes. Very, very few people even know what it is and / or how to do it properly. The good news is that if you're fairly gentle on your brakes for the first few days, it's generally not a problem. (For those that don't believe me, remember that the brand-new brakes on your brand new T4R were never bedded in at the factory.)

Getting back to your original question though, have you ever considered that you might be just a bit hard on your brakes? With normal use, your OEM brakes should easily be good for 40,000 to 50,000 miles. The original brakes on my 2021 have 35,000 miles on them and I occasionally tow my 22' boat. They're not even 50% worn yet.

yes the lug nuts are a worn socket in the tire shop , and the lugs are distorted , and it is damaging the lug nuts....

There are lots of reasons to upgrade brakes over OEM - larger or heavier tires, lifts, and frequent towing are a few of them. I used a stoptech Z36 package on my FJ Cruiser and it was awesome. I was able to use oversized brakes for a 2007 V8 4runner sport on my 2007 FJ, which increased the diameter from 319 mm to 338mm too. I am not sure if something like that is possible on the 4runners. But if it's not stopping power you want anyway, and just a reliable brake upgrade, I would look into Stoptech.

Rotors warp from heating up and rapid cooling, so make sure to avoid deep water on the roads. Drilled and slotted rotors should dissipate heat better and might help with your issue, though I do admit it is strange you continually have this issue as it seems to be a unique problem to you. Good luck and keep us informed what you try!

thanks i watch a video on the bedding breaks your absolutely right i don't think most shops would not take the time to do that
i had never had issues with my 4th Gen. brakes but i will try to be more conscious of my braking I mostly do FWY driving in SoCal. so being hard on the breaks some times is a must.

Thanks i have been looking in to stoptec Z36 just for the front that might help me out and since i have got the new rotters i have been driving slow and braking very slightly for couple days to break them in so hopefully that will help for now
