but ended up buying a Highlander. I kept browsing for an older 4Runner and a month later found a rust free never 4 wheeled 3rd gen (2001 SR5 Sport Edition) and ended up buying that also:eek:

Once I looked at the undercarriage and test drove it I was sold, I can't believe how much I enjoy driving it even though it's underpowered but I didn't buy it for speed after all!

    Cheers from AZ!

That is an extremely smart thing to do. The third gen is probably the best 4Runner gen, and if you're into four wheeling, it's a great platform. Meanwhile, the Highlander is going to be a much much better daily driver than the current 4Runner, so now you have the best of both worlds.

Sounds like a good move! What year Highlander, and how do you like it?

I ended up with a 2020 Limited model with 15k on it, a very peppy vehicle that glides down the freeway, the 3.5 is a fantastic engine with plenty of power.

Funny how that engine works so well in the Highlander, but not so much in the 3rd gen Tacoma. Maybe the transmission makes all the difference...I've read countless threads with complaints about the 6-speed auto tranny in the Tacoma, which then leads to complaints about it feeling underpowered...
