What is the Toyota recommended battery for the 4Runner. Several Google searches come up with Die Hard or True Start. I also hear Interstate is a good one.

I don't think you can go wrong with those 3. I thought someone had told me the OEM batteries were made by Diehard.

The problem I’ve always had with aftermarket batteries is they start leaking after about a year.

Wish we could get an original Panasonic replacement.

Exactly. The Panasonic is probably the longest life battery you'll have

The Duracell Batteries have come a long ways and they build a good quality battery with a excellent life span now, I have the Duracell batteries in my Boats same ones for 5 years now and in my Tundra for 3 years no issues.

I've literally never had a battery leak, and I used to buy Walmart batteries. What kind of batteries are you buying, lol?

Agreed about Panasonic, though. My '03 came with a Panasonic and it lasted about 170,000 miles and 10 years.

Totally agree. When the OEM battery usually dies or goes bad, I replace it with the Optima Gel Battery, just because they don't leak as well.

    Cheers,

Toyota Trustart, Interstate and now Oreilly’s battery. All leaked, guess I’m just a lucky guy.

If I'm not mistaken per the testing some time back by "Project Farm" says Walmart batteries are better than some of the expensive options.

It wouldn't surprise me. Usually store brand stuff is manufactured by name brand manufacturers. I've had very good luck with Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops store brand rods and reels. :)

Curious on this because I’ve had a bunch of green stuff grow on terminals on previous old cars.

When you had leaks, was it the green stuff/fuzz growing on the posts? Or was it a liquid leak of acid that ran down onto other metal?

I found out the green fuzz happens when you have a bad ground strap. Turns out that’s what caused my problems, as my ground straps had corroded heavily and were coming apart.

Mainly just wet (acid) on top of battery. I use those treated felt washers under the contactor posts to help prevent battery terminal corrosion. I usually clean it up well before the battery terminals are effected.

My career in electrical engineering has taught me to buy the cheapest batteries that meet the OEM spec. Here in TX heat is death to batteries. So those long "guarantees" are meaningless. By the time the battery is three years old the warranty is pretty much worthless.

There are only a few battery manufactures in the US. They brand every US made battery, die hard, interstate walmart.

I buy the cheap ones, they last as long as the "premium" batts and are cheaper in the long run...

I just replaced my OEM Panasonic on my 2018 a couple weeks ago with an EverStart from Walmart. I don't live in a climate with extreme conditions, I usually hit the local SoCal mountains a few times in the winter. Thinking this should suffice. 3 year Warranty, I also uploaded a picture of my receipt to the My Purchases area of the Walmart app should anything happen when I'm out and about and need to warranty it.

Thank you, heading to dealer tomorrow to pick up windshield wipers and install myself that I ordered and got a discount on and had them free ship to the parts deparment. Saved about $18.00. I am going to ask them what they recommend and go from there. Most likely True Start. I will installing myself though. Funny, the battery is no longer available to order online thru Toyota.

A Toyota Trustart battery. I can’t remember who actually makes it but it’s not Toyota. I think it’s a Johnson Controls battery but not 100% sure

This past Saturday my battery finally gave up the ghost, looking at it it's a Panasonic so it's most likely the original. Pretty good considering it's a 2013.

My '07 Volvo actually did better, in early 2021 I replaced the original Volvo battery. I think those do really well because they're located inside the car, under the cargo floor. The guy at the auto parts store wasn't even surprised, said he sees a lot of old Volvo batteries come in.

I'm literally watching the video right now, haha. I was just looking at batteries twice the cost, but I'm just going to go with $120 Walmart battery because it did so good in his testing.

Wish we could get an original Panasonic. Most aftermarket batteries start leaking on me within a year. I’ve given up on the quest for “that” perfect battery.
