New to the forum and 4runners

Traded my 2017 taco off road for a 2017 4Runner off road premium today. I can't say enough about the 4Runner so far. The taco was the biggest let down of any vehicle I have ever owned.

 

Agreed! I've had my off road for a week and love it.

 

Welcome, i'm a new comer here as well. I traded my 08 tacoma ( Great truck) for a 4 runner trail.

 

Welcome aboard fellows. I traded our '15 Wrangler JKU for a '16 Canadian 4R Trail and the 4R is, far and away, the best 4x4 I've owned since my brand new '64 Int'l Scout. Since then I've owned '69 and '75 Land Rovers, '82 Chev Blazer, '89 Isuzu Trooper, '96 Jeep Cherokee, '14 Cherokee, '15 Wrangler. We love our 4R and can't wait to hit the roads and trails this spring.

I traded my 2016 Taco for my 4runner... It had brakes and transmission problems. Everybody knew it except the dealers. They will never admit it was a bad setup...

 

Loving the 4Runner only thing that I don't like and can't understand why is it doesn't have auto headlights. Smh lol

 

That's the thing about Toyota. You pay out the ass for a quality vehicle but you don't get near the toys as an American car. My 40k off road 2017 doesn't even have a remote hatch opening, wtf? For a 40k American car you'd have every bell and whistle known to man.

 

Bells and whistles make too much noise when you drive off road. Scares the game. I prefer our 4R, and there's less chance of things to go wrong. - Ted

I ended up doing the same thing with my '16 TRDOR. Toyota really screwed the pooch on that vehicle. I decided to bail on it before they got a bad rep and their used vehicle price started dropping. I really liked my 2nd gen taco and I really like alot about the 3rd gen, but the engine/tranny combo were the deal breaker for me.

Interesting comment about auto headlamps. My '16 Limited has them.

 

Similar situation here brother. Had a 1rst gen taco, 2nd gen taco, 3rd gen taco but then I had to bail. I still love Toyota and will continue to do so but IMHO the 3rd gen blows. I'm in a pro 4Runner now and the difference is night and day. Sometimes I'm shocked they were made by the same company. Anyways enjoy cause I know I am!

 

Top of the Morning boys, chalk up another "16 Taco owner (TRD Sport LB) to the 4Runner stable. I only did it as I came across a TRD Pro on a lot that was actually for sale so I jumped on it. Will admit after a week of having the 4Runner it is a better rig for me. Though I do miss the Inferno color and sunroof lol

I switched from a 16' Tacoma TRD Sport AC 6spd, I didn't have any issues with the truck, actually one of the more enjoyable vehicles I've had to drive, but after the nieces visited, I decided I needed more interior room. I actually wasn't a huge fan of the upgraded electronics on the Tacoma, the dash was nice, I enjoyed the LCD display in the cluster, etc, but no particular reason for it. I ended up trading it in and getting within 2k of what I bought the car for 10k miles and a year ago. Still unbelievable trade and resale for Tacomas.

I got my 2017 4R SR5, I prefer it pretty basic, I already upgraded the stereo (the whole point I didn't really like the Tacos electronics as it was all integrated into the head unit).

The difference in build quality seems significant to me. I paid $31,900 for my Tacoma new, I paid $34,800 for my 4R, but they feel like entirely different levels of vehicle. The 4R sounds infinitely more solid, the doors on the Tacoma felt "tinny" when closing them, the 4R sounds like a pillow closing (no joke). The interior quality is way nicer, the leather accents are "real" compared to the Tacos plastic leather look, the seats "feel" more comfortable to me. I am really excited to have the interior space addition, groceries and general day to day is going to be much nicer. The ride is also infinitely smoother, the Tacoma was quite rough on our Portland Oregon streets.

The engine of the Tacoma, while I didn't find it underpowered like others, it had to rev more, which in turn, made the engine considerably louder and felt like a washing machine at times.

If you can't tell, I love my 4R so far. The difference is significant and when I need to carry something large or dirty, I have an 8ft trailer for that.

 

All you people trading in your older Toyotas for a new 4Runner are doing it wrong...

 

4Runner is still the best purchase I've made in quite a while. I don't miss the Tacoma at all.

pickups have their uses, just like SUVs. I carry all kinds of stuff in the bed of the p/u (bikes, motorcycles, rocks, dirt, etc...), but it's nice to have internal storage (doesn't get wet when it rains) in the 4runner, because the double-cabs are especially bad at storage. I'm planning an overlander build for the taco. The pickup is older (smaller) which IMO is better for off-roading, and also paid for! I'm not about to thrash the 4Runner with all the coin I just spent on it!

 

I'll trade in my 2017 tacoma double cab soon. Already agreed on a deal and will be picking up the 4runner next week.
