Is the newer style TRD wheel the same rough-ish matte finish as the SEMA wheels or is it a smooth gloss? Hard to tell in photos (like the one in my former post above).

Anyone have a photo that closely matches reality? Or is this photo a good match?

Thanks for the photo! That’s how I’m imagining the finish, like you describe.

But for someone that’s seen both… is it different than the Sema wheels? Or the same?

Long-time Tacoma owner here making the switch to a 4Runner.

I put a deposit down on a Lunar Rock ORP with KDSS and sliding cargo deck about a month ago. Fully aware of how long of a wait it will be, but the sales guy just called and is trying to convince me that they are no longer sending 2022's or plan to build 2023's with the sliding cargo deck and that I should hop on another one that will be here in 6 weeks that doesn't have the deck. I'm calling bullshit on this but wanted to see if anybody has info on whether they are discontinuing the sliding cargo deck or not? You can still build them for 2022 and 2023 models on the Toyota site so I'm pretty sure he's just trying to get me to take this one that somebody canceled on.

I highly doubt you'll get the cargo deck. I waited 6 months aNd mine came without the cargo deck. You will however wind up with the premium package, whether you want it or not. If you have an opportunity to get everything you want minus the deck in a few weeks, I would take it!

I really lucked out with mine. Got it just in time. I figured it wasn’t happening after an 8 month wait.

He means it's probably going to be a 2023 model as they start arriving around September.

Thanks for all the responses. My entire back buildout is based around the cargo tray, and I just really want one I’ve decided. I’m not in a rush so I think I’ll wait it out to see if I get one with all the options I want. Looks like I’ll be getting a 2023 at this point.

    mjordan,
I’m in the same boat as you. I’m on the process of ordering a ‘23 Off-road, but non premium in Lunar Rock with black emblems. I don’t want leather. I wanted the KDSS, but was told I would have to order it with the premium audio. Even then, it would be hard to get that one on the east(I’m in Maryland). I trust the person I am dealing with, because they are a friend of over 20 years. She told me, most of those go to the Midwest and west coast. She’s trying to work a deal with the Toyota pipeline/network, to have diverted to our area. I told her to look for one without KDSS, if that makes it easier. It does, but could still be 3-6 months till I see it. Their next allocation meeting is on the 19th. So we will see. Good luck to you!

Not entirely true, my 2022 Pro is currently at the port, waiting for final delivery. But yes, 23s are now getting allocated - shortly after I was informed I was getting the 22 Pro in my preferred color (black), a separate dealership let me know I could get an allocation for a 23 in Solar Octane for delivery in Oct or Nov. It was tempting, but I passed.

It's pretty annoying how it actually works. It's a big purchase and I just want exactly what I want. My dealer keeps trying to peddle other vehicles with this and that option missing saying "but it's basically the same"... no actually it's not lol. Luckily I'm not in a hurry because I love my Taco so I'll wait to see if I can get the options I want on a '23.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
I wish you luck, we waited 6months for a ORP without a moon roof and finally my wife said enough is enough and we took one with it. It didn’t hurt that it was AG.

My wait was about 6 months for LR ORP non KDSS in Texas. I was able to take off the "Off Road Package" (TRD wheels, nitto tires, rock rails, black emblems). Other than the predator steps and stupid nitrogen tire add on, I got everything I wanted.

I could of had a AG OR within 2 weeks but passed on it because if I'm spending this money, might as well wait for what I want or close to it.

Also was close to getting a LR KDSS without Moonroof at month 4, this combo is rare in Gulf States. My dealer was trying to work out an allocation trade with another dealer in LA. It fell through because the vehicle was out of port and heading to LA. Apparently they have to complete it before it leaves port on the train. The LA dealer had a 6k markup! No thanks!

No point rushing to get 2022 T4R.
2023 are readily available with VIN numbers and Stock Numbers for preorders.
Just go to dealers with SmartPath link on their websites.

Cost a few grands more though. Same specs

Called the dealership back in mid August asking if they had any lunar rock trd orp available to reserve. Two were available so I put deposit it in for one thinking it was going to be possibly a 2023 model. Got a call from the salesman on September 7th that the 4Runner would be coming the next day. Not bad for about a 3 week wait time.

Have been on the waiting list at Mountain States Toyota since December 2021. Haven’t heard a single thing from them in 9 months. They just mailed me a refund of my deposit. Okay then. Way too much effort to try and give someone way too much money for a truck designed in 2009. If they ever do a 6th gen maybe I’ll try again.

How is that too much work? If you want the vehicle you have to do the legwork and call around, you'll find one. One of the big reasons they have such a demand is because it was designed in 2009 and mostly the same.

Yes people will buy the 6th gen because American culture states you need the latest and greatest but the 5th gen will be vastly superior as far as reliability. Perfect example 2nd gen tacoma and 3rd gen tacoma, 2nd gen tacoma has the 1gr 4.0 currently in 5th gens, 3rd gen 3.5 is turning out to be an ok motor nowhere near reliable as the 4.0 not to mention plagued with software mapping issues for the transmission in the name of fuel economy but people still buy a shit ton of them because latest and greatest

    Hey Team,
    Here's my story.

Was calling around multiple dealers out of state trying to find a LR ORP that was unspoken for. Found a couple, but it was either at a significant markup or they wouldn't sell out of state.

Decided to just go down to my local dealer, Pedersen Toyota in Fort Collins, CO and talk with the salesman. Was told my buildout was doable, but was looking at a 4 to 6 month wait. I was exclusively looking for a 23 ORP in Lunar Rock without the Moonroof. I had some additional accessories I wanted, like the pro roof rack, tube steps and blackout emblem overlays, but the big requirements was ORP in LR with no moon roof.

Put my $1k refundable deposit down on 9/23 and was called on 10/6 with an allocation and VIN. I'm missing some of the minor options I wanted like roof rack and tube steps, but those are all addable at a later time. Most important was ORP in LR without Moonroof.

Just need to wait for it to arrive and get shipped.

Paying MSRP of $46,124. No dealer markups.

Thank you. I was really trying to hard in the beginning, calling every dealership within 500 miles of me. The path of least resistance is what worked best for me and the price was right.

The Toyota dealership I bought my 2022 ORP from has a 2023 Black 40TH Anniversary 4Runner. It's sold but they posted it on their Instagram page last night... So the 2023 are now being delivered instead of 2022 4Runners.

    23 TRD Off Road
Wow, just wow. I am glad I wasn't in the market the last two years. Two weeks ago I go to one of the Toyota dealers near us in Asheville. They had unsold 4 Runners . Wife really liked the lime rush and I was like it's cool . We have a 24 year old in a wheel chair with some mobility. They had a TRD Pro in Lime Rush but it had that sliding back end thing . It was not very practical for loading a wheel chair due to the added height. So, we asked the dealer about how to get a 22 TRD pro without it and they said they aren't shipping 22s and we need a 23 TRD Trail Premium to get that color. I initially they said 2-4 months. We left.

I was in town for work stopped by and asked a different sales associate and they did a search on the computer. Voila there was one in transit to another dealer in SC. I asked if they could get it and more importantly was not sold. The guy gave me a bunch of mumbo jumbo about dealer trades in this climate . I was like , I get it. I said I wanted to buy the car from them but I would be willing to go 5 hours and buy it from the dealer in SC. I left . About 45 minutes later the guy said I have your 23 4 Runner in lime rush. It will be here in 10 days. I thanked him and he sold a truck. I think the car market might be breaking free of this log jam it's been in for the last couple of years.

Short story- I got really lucky & within a week of searching, I was able to secure a local allocation for a TRD Pro. It’ll be here at the end of this month.

Long Story- Back in March, I decided I wanted the new Tundra. Originally thought I wanted a Tacoma but reality quickly set in that for as much as I wanted my 6’8 frame to fit in a Taco, it wasn’t happening.

I wasn’t aware how bad inventory had become, so I thought it was going to be a relatively easy process. Auto trader, etc made it seem like most dealerships had plenty of inventory. I quickly realized, not only was inventory low but I also learned about this new concept called a “market adjustment”. It was honestly mind blowing to me.

I spent weeks emailing around to different dealerships & got on a few “free” waitlists. Even ended up paying a refundable $500 deposit for another. After a month of obsessively searching, I finally found my truck in DC (I’m in Texas).

The process itself was grueling but in a weird way, it was pretty rewarding. A few weeks ago, my better half decided she wanted to trade in her Blazer for a 4Runner. Thanks to my Tundra, she fell in love with all of the random quirks of Toyota & liked the safety features my tundra has. so, I started the process again but this time, I knew how I wanted to approach the process. Between Autotrader, cars.com & TrueCar, I was able to reach out to a ton of dealers & get on a few lists. Then I got lucky & found a random allocation at a local dealership here that hadn’t been spoken for with no markup.

It’s a very tough process with the current market but I’ve noticed (both times) that it’s all about timing.

Drove by the local dealer to see what’s happening and ran across this. It was available as of one hour ago. I talked to a salesman and they though it was reserved but a deposit was not made. I am not associated in any way with this dealer. Sounded like it was at retail. Hope this helps somebody. Located in Rock Hill Sc, just south of Charlotte.

No true markup but they snuck in some dealer add-on's. About $2.5K's worth. Some of those are designed to look like regular Toyota itemized things both most of them are not.

Either way, not a terrible price. Especially in this market.
