This may already be noted somewhere here and discussed to death on this forum, regardless I wanted to share a quick fix I tried over the summer. Here goes...

    Problem Statement:
My auto transmission shift knob (TRD Pro version) and t-case shift knob did not line up "correctly" with the dash when adequately tight. My auto-trans shift knob also had some rotational "play" in it when tight.

Solution: I wrapped the threads of each shifter post (stalk?) with plumbers tape, about 7 wraps each. For each knob this amount of tape added enough material for me to create an "aligned" and tight scenario. This amount of tape also eliminated the "play" in the auto trans. shift knob after it was tight.

For the specific amount of tape wraps, your mileage my vary...

I should have tried your solution on a new black TRD auto shifter I got recently. It would not stay put when tight, still had some rotational play. I returned it for a refund...
