So I bought my rig brand new and I didn't notice until a few days later the fake carbon Fibre centre console (the top part closer to the radio) wasn't fully seated so I just pushed it down thinking no biggie since they just snap it. Fast forward I noticed rattles whenever I hit a bump in the road so I inspected the console a little closer and I noticed where the part meets the glove box if you push on it there's a lot of free play.

Truck only has 800 miles so instead of trying to fix it myself in fear of breaking some tabs or getting blamed I brought it to the stealership. Of course they said they need it for 3 days and will charge me 130 an hour if it's something I did or not toyotas fault.

Anyway waiting for my uber I saw 2 used 4runners in tbe parking lot, one of them was a limited which doesn't have the fake carbon fiber and when I pressed down it had zero play. Inside their show room was a 2022 4runner pro with 2k miles and the fake carbon and when I pressed down it had a little play (definitely not firm like the 2020 limited)

My fear is the dealer will say its normal or within tolerances and tell me to fuck myself and charge me a few hundred.

So my question is like stated does your guys have free play when you press down, thanks

I would go see your salesperson and talk to the General Manager. This should be covered under your bumper to bumper warranty.

It should be but toyota is notorious for denying all warranty work saying it's not defective or within allotted tolerances

Where the part meets the GLOVE BOX or the CENTER STORAGE CONSOLE? Your image is the latter.

I have no movement in that spot.

I had some rattles on my previous vehicle with the radio bezel which is held in similarly to the console garnish. I used felt tape (flock) to cover the spring clips and reinstated. No more rattles.

While you have it off, make sure the clips are seared properly on the plastic posts.

You could also put the felt tape where the garnish contacts the console itself

Photo of the area with the offending spot circled would be helpful.

Yeah that's not the glove box but my above response stands, no play at that spot.

Picked it up from the stealership and no more noise but still moves when you press down firm. They had two brand new trd off road premiums on the truck when I came to pickup and the service advisor and I checked them out and they both do it as well. So maybe they use new parts for 2022/2023?

I read somewhere that the tolerance for parts that would have typically been denied to be installed at the factory has loosened up due to Covid and supply shortages of course. Maybe you got one of the ‘it’s good enough’ parts. I don’t have a single noise in mine except when i hit the gas pedal or have the radio on. Did the dealer say what they did to ‘fix’ your issue?

So I checked mine out just now and it slightly moves with some pressure. It doesn't rattle when driving though!
