I’m going to tell everyone my screw up so maybe it will help someone else out. We are all out, I go and lock the door (wife has key) and I get the tone. I asked her where the key was, no answer.

the key locked inside the back. My fault. So I tried The Toyota remote unlock no dice. Paid 65 bucks, and I’m home writing this and just got a call.

I had just a thought to stand on the hitch, and drop ball. I stood on it and shook the back as much as I could and pressed the unlock on the back door nothing. When it quit rocking it actually unlocked and found the key. So it’s 2 years old and I’m going to change the battery on all my keys and fobs. Just fyi. I’m thinking (one my fault) the battery is low from 2 years. Guess I should have changed it every year.

so if this happens and you have a push button start 4R, shake it? Glad I’m home.

I heard if you store your keys near your truck, that can drain your battery b/c is connecting to your truck constantly. Not sure if that’s your case but I thought I share.

They are usually apart, garage/ inside house. Just so it doesn’t happen to someone else. I’m going to change the battery yearly now. I’m glad I got it opened, but I didn’t need this today lol.

I’m not following… how did it come unlocked?
And how did bouncing the truck do anything?

I installed the Toyota touch keypad on my 4Runner. Love it and it avoids this problem.

So the key was in a bag, my wife told Me. Since the key wasn’t being detected inside the 4R. I thought maybe moving the bag might get the key to a place where it will be seen. I tried it, bag moved (in back) and it unlocked, because keys are supposed to not be able to be locked inside, unless you have 2 fobs and lock one key inside and have another outside.

I’m just trying to give someone else an idea if they ever lock a smart key inside of something. Move the car or truck around and in my case it was just enough to work. I went from loser to hero, in 3 seconds. Just learned my lesson, always know where it’s at, and keep the battery new in the fobs.

I did it with mine. I had tagged a doe. Then went, got the spare keys and grazed another doe on the way home. True story I was eating good for awhile.

Which they are going to have to replace when they swap bumpers in the shop.
