Radiator cap failure

Peter’s latest video talking about a radiator cap failure. Apparently this has happened on other models as well. I thought it was an important heads up.

Does 5th gen T4R have the same radiator cap as the Tundra??

 

It is working for me now as well. Not sure what was going on before.

 

Not sure but Peter did mention in the video that it has happened to other Toyota models. My guess is that different models may share parts where they can. For example my Sequoia and 4Runner use the same cabin air filter.

 

Thats an automatic replacement part at 100k miles for me along with any other cap in the engine bay and of course, a gas cap. Dont want to be in BFE when I get a CEL code.

 

My 2004's cap looks fine but I replaced it anyway.

 

It was mentioned in one of the parked maintenance threads as a replacement item.....

Radiator Cap:
Change Interval: 60,000 miles / 5 years – whichever comes first
Radiator Cap: Toyota part #: 1640131830 (2016-2018); 1640136020 (2015-2016) (hand tight)

 

Why buy the same cap if it's prone to failure?

Anyone have a better alternative?

 

Well, there’s always aftermarket, but that plan hasn’t worked out for many with the locking fuel caps.
