Hey yall. I've been having some issues with my 2016 4Runner.

When it rains and I'm pulling out from a stop sign or a green light, the traction light will flash and it makes a grinding type noise and the pedal will shake. The car acts as though it doesn't want to go forward.

Today, I had it happen when I was going up a hill. I had to stop on the hill and when I pressed the gas pedal it did the same thing except this time, the road was dry.

The light doesn't stay on, it just flashes while it's freaking out and then goes off when it goes back to normal.

I'm finding some conflicting information online and want some opinions of what it could be from people who actually own 4 runners.

Side note, my 4runner has no major mods, only tint job and side steps. 87k miles, had normal check ups on time it's entire time.

Completely normal. Part of the electronics control system.

Perfectly normal. CPU slowing the engine rpm's to help you regain traction. If the wheels are spinning, it will kick in. Same thing happens "feel wise" when you hit the brake, lose traction and the ABS kicks in.

My '21 does this when it loses traction in the rear. It's normal, but if I were you I'd look at why the rear is trying to break loose. Are your tires getting bald out back?

As mentioned by others, how are your tires? If they are original, they might be getting a little old. Even if they have decent tread, the rubber gets harder over time.

You have to be completely stopped, push and hold the traction control button, and wait for track off and VSC off to light up. Up. Takes about 3 seconds. Then, you can have fun!

That’s the same thing my 2013 Tacoma Sport 4x4 does in the snow. It’s perfectly normal & is the results of a heavy foot. The grinding noise could be the system stepping in & LSD kicking in. Get us a video & we’ll be able to see if it’s normal 4 sure
