Bug deflector gap

On my weathertech bug deflector, there is a noticeable gap to the hood. Any idea why, or do anyothers do the same?

 

Wow! You know I ordered one last year, it came all scratched, so I called them they sent another all scratched so I never installed. I got Xpel film installed instead and glad I did now. But a buddy of mine installed a WT on his and it looked great, so I am not sure what the deal is

 

Simple. Crap design and manufacturing practice.

 

Not sure why you say iys crap. Looking at AVS, they have same open area as weathertech.
I will keep looking. There has to be a reason that is open.

I always thought that was for airflow to keep the guard “puffy”.

 

Now that makes sense. Keep it for aerodynamics.

 

It makes zero sense. To me, it looks like they used a laser to map the angles and then someone didn't get the dimensions right when they created the CAD program to cut it. Not sure what you man by "puffy"? It just doesnt look right. How do they expect you to get into that little space to clean out the bugs since it doesnt protect the corner of the hood?

 

I meant with air flowing above and below, due to the vent, it is able to keep its shape for the most part. Many years ago I had a Kragen special that was a giant solid piece and when I got going the wind would push it straight back into the hood. Eventually it left a line across my hood from all the rubbing.

Later when we all, my family, started putting this style on it made a bit more sense with the holes. They allowed drainage and some air pressure under the plastic to keep it somewhat off the hood.

 

Call me crazy but maybe it’s to allow rain a place to drain out so it doesn’t collect under the protector.
